I am thinking of getting that Nintendo USB Wifi port. It is foor my laptop, since I am stuck in college, with no way to go on Wifi. However, I am not sure how it works. I mean, my school's wifi rejects all outside devices, like Wii, DS, Xbox Live, etc. But would the USB post work? I mean, since it does make my laptop a router, if I got it right, it should work.

I'm asking to anyone who knows, especially those who own the product, and are in a similar predicament.

Yeah it should work I used one of those for a while. It should work because it's using your computer as the hub and if your school allows relatively free access, for games, to hard lines than you should be good

Don't buy it!! If you know how to set up a network, you could easily use some software called WiPeer to create your own laptop wireless network - the downside is that you need to connect the laptop via wired to your internet.

Yeah it will work. I have the same problem at school. Installing your disk allows your laptop to work as a router. You'll be connecting to the comp itself rather than the connection.

You may have a hard time finding a Nintendo USB Port though, they have been discontinued for unknown reasons.

Well, if your school has a password protected network, then you have no hope of using their Internet connection. However, you can buy a Linkseys Wireless Adapter, which will pick up any free internet in the area. I picked one up for 94 bucks, but if you get an off brand you can probably find them cheaper. However, the problem with that is, sometimes Wi-Fi USB adapters don't work right with the Linkseys adapter, so I don't really have anything to suggest.

If you can't find the Nintendo adapter, pick up a normal Wifi Access Point. Plug it's network cable into your lan socket on your laptop and tell windows to share the Wifi connection to the cabled lan socket. Then just set the wifi access point up with the correct IPs and away you go!

    Works fine for me :)

Well, I doubt that he has access to the school's network cables.

You don't need the schools cable... The Wifi access point (that you go and buy!) plugs into your laptop, and gets its net connection via Internet Connection Sharing.

And that's why I am scared, I think it uses a password, but I have heard stories of people going online here with their 360's.

You can get the on the school wifi with your laptop right?

If so, my method will work and allow you to create another wifi network that gets it connection from your laptop. Exactly like the Nintendo USB adapter. Just another way.

In case anyone still isn't clear. You actually go an buy your own Wireless Access Point. Something like the Netgear WG602 or similar.

ok i have the usb connector. its not really somplicated. you install the software, put in the usb and set up the connection. at the computer you will have to grant permission or deny permission. the bad thing is that the computer has to be on. and thats pretty much it.

linksys is a brand that makes routers there are many other manufacturers i personally use a d-link but im pretty sure lynksys would work.
