Hi all, hope you all had a great memorial day weekend!

An eventful thing happened for my six year old, he got his first couple of Pokémon cards and the fuse has been lit. Problem is, I know nothing about it so I'm trying to learn fast. Budget is tight on this hobby for us (two other kids under six, some of you might understand that) so I got him a starter deck then looked on ebay for some more cards.

He's going to school today, very excited but I'm afraid some of the older kids might take advantage of him on trades, can't help that I suppose and generally he doesn't have anything of value, I just know he cares a ton even for the commons he has.

Anyway, I have a few goals:

    1. Learn the game so that I can share in the hobby and play against him, teach him how to play (we watched a decent YouTube video so far)

    2. Figure out a good deal on some common cards so that he has a bunch to trade, I've checked ebay but have no knowledge of what is reasonable or what isnt. If anyone could link me to some fair prices that would help. I plan on trying to buy a few less common cards for his bday, again, no clue.

    3. Support my son's interests.

So that's me, glad to be here, excited for any help these forums bring. Typing from my phone, sorry if this post isn't any good.

    Thanks,
    Guy from Milwaukee

Daw, it's cool that you're supporting your son and his interests. You're a good man! But yeah, the pokemon franchise is easy to learn and to get into. You can hop on over to boards such as Pokemon General, Pokemon Gaming Central, and so on! We're always here to help you out with any questions you may have! We also have our Pokemon TCG board, in case you have specific questions about the trading card game~ <33

We're excited to have you here indeed! Pleasure to meet you! I hope you have lots of fun here~ If you ever need anything or just want to chat, I'm always open to PMs or VMs. ♥ Have a fantastic day!

You are the best dad ever.
There are several forums here that will help you with that.

There's a rulebook in the Official Pokemon Website that will be useful as well! :)

That really makes me happy to hear. :) Pokemon is a franchise for all ages and I do hope my kids if I ever have any would get into it down the line. As a huge fan myself I'd be able to tell them aaall there is to know! ...well, almost, haha. Not a very good battler in the games so there's that.

Welcome to PokeCommunity! Absolutely in support of your journey to learn more about this wonderful series so please do message me if you have questions or just want to talk. The TCG board is a great place to price cards and talk about anything related to the TCG so definitely take that suggestion as others have said. Have a blast, Guido!
