Dear PC, I would like to say that I have encountered a new problem.

Sometimes, whenever I want to another page on PC, instead of giving me the page I wanted, it gives me the CloudFlare message saying the site is offline.

But when I close my browser & reenter PC, it's OK.

Why is this happening? Someone plz tell me.

It's a traffic spike. If too many people try to visit at once, Cloudflare takes the site offline so it doesn't get killed. Just wait a while and try again later. You don't have to close your browser or anything, just go have a meal or play a game or something and wait for the traffic to die down.

A little expansion on what Touj mentioned, its best if you refrain from constantly refreshing the page or trying to access the site since that can actually do more harm than good. Usually the site is back online in an hour to two so no need to worry.

Dear Toujours & Curious, I know that PC goes offline if too many people try to come at once. But my prob is it gives me an offline message & when I come back, it's OK. It's even less then 1 minute.

It's...a short change. Thousands of people try to access pages throughout the day. Usually it's staggered enough that they don't affect each other. But sometimes a lot of people happen to try to load a page at once, and it crashes for 30 seconds or so, sometimes less. It's a normal part of PC browsing and not a glitch that can be fixed at this point in time.

Another possibility is that a staff member is performing an IP search as that locks up the server at times, depending on who's being searched.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering the same thing (on the issue of offline message)

Actually, I've had issues just like this which seem to stem beyond heavy traffic. Just a few seconds ago, for instance, I got cloudflare'd after sending a private message when beforehand PC was working totally fine. I closed my browser, re-opened it, and just as MidnightShine described, everything was fine and working at normal speed again. I don't think we have traffic spikes which come and go in literally a matter of a few seconds and looking at the online list now, there aren't any mods doing IP searches or anything like that, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of different problem going on here.

Hmm, I experience that too about ten minutes ago, PC cloudflared for literally less than 1 minute. I refreshed the page and it was working fine.

It's a cache issue. If you're using Windows then go to www.pokecommunity.com and press CTRL + F5. Or Command+Shift+R on a Mac. That'll clear your Cache and should remove CloudFlare.

PC has always had server issues.

They have gotten less common in the past few years, but we still have a abnormally large number of them.

Edit - We really need to purge a lot of 'junk' data from the server. (Delete the permabanned accounts, and any accounts that haven't been logged into for the past year and have 0 posts.) Doing this would proably take the site offline for a day or so, however without all that junk data the overall stability of the site would improve.

Well, some permabanned accounts still got unbanned later on because they appealed, so deleting them wouldn't really be right I think.

No, I wasn't saying that, what does that have to do with anything..? Even if you are permabanned, you could get your account back in some cases later on by appealing, which is why I said I thought they shouldn't be deleted obviously. Mistakes can be forgiven you know, lol.

Anyways I've had the same problem with the Cloud Flare thing a few days ago, but really it shouldn't be that big of a deal, and what Gavin suggested works because I had to use that a while ago too and it solves the problem.

    Perma = permanent?

I might be using the wrong dictionary, but mine says that if its permanent, its not going to change.

I get what your saying, however if the account is unbanned then how could that account have been permabanned, or even be considered permabanned? Permanent is ment to be know... unchanging, or whatever synonym you prefer.

At the very least though, we should delete all those advertising accounts. I don't know about you, but I doubt that any of them will ever be unbanned.

The ban has no preset expiration limit. But permabanned accounts have been unbanned in the past, so whether or not it matches the exact definition of "permanent" doesn't change anything.

I do agree that it would be nice to have the old accounts with no posts pruned though.

I've noticed this too. When I go to PC for the first time in awhile, it will say it's offline, but if I just refresh, it's fine 99% of the time.
