As it says in the title, i am a very old fan of the series that has finally decided to come back after a decade of being away from the game series. I didnt have anything against generations 3-5 (though 5 i got really bored really fast and really did not like the designs of some of the pokemon) so there is alot that i have missed out on. To put things in perspective, the first and last game i played was crystal, and that game gave me so many close memories that it somewhat prevented me from playing other games, with the exception of soul silver.

I have managed to finally get back into the game cause of X and Y because of i think the starter prokemon and that it was a xmas gift from a friend. I have been trying to go through the game and i feel like its more of a grind now than the older games were. It might seem like a complaint but i do try to play the game when i can. The problem is i am 40+ hours into the game, but i still dont have my third badge. I feel like i have to grind my team up 5-6+ levels above the ones in the area i am at, and it does feel like a grind. I kind of dont want to use the XP share cause i dont like how it does it for everyone instead of just one pokemon from gen 2. It also feels like they changed alot in terms of weaknesses and abilities and it seems to take me a much longer time to figure out who is what without having to go to external sources constantly. I used to be able to look at a pokemon and able to tell instantly what their weakness would be though i cant seem to do it now.

Im also trying to figure out how to get Eevee so i can have a full eeveelution team again since i almost always go for that in the games since eevee is my fave of all of the pokemon but i have no idea how to get her in the game. I also want to have a good explanation to this EV training as it seems like overkill but also doesnt seem to be fun for someone that casually plays the game. I do want to play with my friends however it is a bit unfair when they perfected their pokemon to have the best advantage during battles and id like to know a way to counter that, (even my fastest speed pokemon that beat everyone every time still was too slow against Azumarill. There is probably more that i need to put out that i do not know/understand but i will put those up on this post when i can. Thank you everyone in advance.

P.S. did nintendo stop doing events for x/y since the new games came out?

Welcome back to the Pokemon world, as someone who also came back after a long break (R/B/Y to HGSS) there was a lot to take in.

EV training is actually ok now in X/Y OR/AS as you have super training, basically you pick what strengths you want your pokemon to have and do the training courses that will benefit those stats. Certain pokemon benefit more from certain stats so pick those, dont try and train your pokemon in a bit of everything as itll then probably be no good for battling friends or things like battle maison.

You'll also want to look at breeding and IV's if you want to perfect your pokemon and battle friends/online, theres too much to go into here but plenty of guides to read and then my advice as someone who did similar is to just get all the items and practice. Itll make a lot more sense that way and youll soon get the hang of it.

Yes Pokemon has always been a bit of a grind if you're trying to get high above the level of the gym and not use the exp share. The exp share was designed to stop that grindy feeling so id say use it.

As for Eevees i googled and found this handy guide for X/Y

    https://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/3DS/Pokemon+X+/+Pokemon+Y/feature.asp?c=54509

Hope you get back into it all soon.

I think the Exp share exists so you don't have to grind. It's a game so you should not play it if it's not fun, and if grinding stops it being fun for you then try the Exp share.

As the others said, the Exp. Share in 6th Gen was mainly designed to help cut down the stress of grinding levels, and with OR/AS's DexNav it was made even easier due to certain Pokemon carrying Lucky Eggs that you could steal from them.

However, if you prefer having a challenge in your games then do be mindful since leaving it active for too long will cause your team to get overleveled.

Well i suppose i will try exp. share then. But wont that prevent some iv or ev stats from other pokemon to properly go to them? EV and IV is still new to me so im not sure on that. Thank you for that guide on getting an eevee~ This will help me out greatly, Now my question is, im used to having just a plain eevee in my team cause shes my fave and i used to be able to win battles with her easily. Is there a good strategy with just her now in a team or is she not worth considering putting in a team competitive wise?

Basically as you level pokemon up youll get EV's based upon the pokemon you fight. If you're just playing normally then youll never get the EV's you want and frankly id not worry too much about them at this stage. Play the game enjoy it and leave the proper levelling/breeding until you've finished the main game.

Within super training you can get 'reset bags' to reset your EV's (may take a while to get them but not that rare) or grow berries to remove EV's but the easiest and best method generally is to breed a new pokemon for good IV's THEN EV train it straight away in super training THEN level it.

Sadly Eevee isn't that competitive, google movesets for eevee but I doubt youll find much that will make it a good pokemon for online battles, the Eevolutions however are hit and miss. Some like the new fairy type Sylveon are good for competitive play but youll basically have to research good EV's and movesets and potentially find people to trade for hidden abilities to get a good competitive pokemon, For normal gameplay though any pokemon goes basically as the difficulty level is not that high.

Ok, i guess that makes some sense, though im unsure on doing trades to be honest. For me personally hard to go through with trading mostly cause i get attached to them. So what is with all of these new battle types and such? Some of them just seem confusing or not really needed like double battle, air battles and horde mode? The game doesnt really explain them as i guess they assume you already know all this. I have the digital version of the game so i never got a manual with it if nintendo even makes manuals anymore.

Horde battles are mostly utilized for EV training and hunting for Hidden ability pokemon that does not appear in friend safari. If you are planning to EV train your pokemon in the future, then I suggest this site for finding the appropriate hordes: https://nuggetbridge.com/articles/ev-training-hotspots-x-y/

Double battles - 2 pokemon on each side at a time
    Triple battles - 3 at a time
Horde - Your 1 pokemon vs 5 (i think) pokemon usually lower level
Air battles - only for flying pokemon

If you dont want to trade your main pokemon try wondertrade and just pass in whatever pokemon you dont want from your journey, you may get lucky and get breedjects (High IV pokemon possibly with egg moves and hidden abilities leftover from breeding) or just pokemon you could trade on GTS for something you want.

one thing that someone said that surprised me is that TM and HM no longer dissapear after use and can be used multiple time. it is a nice change of pace for it. Though with the hidden abilities and natures i hear it just makes ev and iv so much harder to learn is that true?

No not really for 'most' pokemon you only need to know is it physical or special attack type then you just need to choose if you want to go all out offensive nature

    Adamant - Physical
    Modest - Special

or if you want a speed enhancing nature

    Jolly - Physical
    Timid - Special

Until you really get into competitive battling and start looking at bulky defensive pokemon or specialist teams they are the only natures you really need to worry about and know.

As for hidden abilities basically just pick the pokemon you want and check bulbapedia to see what its hidden ability is, its not always better than the normal abilities but sometimes is. You can get hidden ability pokemon from friend safaris in X/Y or dexnav searching in OR/AS or try your luck with wondertrade and sometimes you get lucky.

If you really want to get into breeding and see how natures and IV's/EV's affect a pokemon then id say download a program called PKHex, ignore the fact that its for hacking pokemon its also a really useful tool for planning pokemon you want to breed to see whats best for IV spreads natures etc. I always fiddle around with it for that purpose before I start a breeding project.

There is a lot to take in but just enjoy the game and learn as you go and youll soon pick it up.

Something else ive been noticing. Im seeing all these new things like pressure and mold breaker and all these new moves, and some of them done make sense, even when i look them up on bulbapedia or serrabi or any of those sites.

Those you listed are pokemon abilities, pressure makes using any move take 2pp instead of 1 so youll run out of moves faster. Mould breaker basically ignores any other pokemons ability to negate something. The example given on bulbapedia is that the ability levitate would stop earthquake hitting. If your pokemon has mould breaker it will ignore levitate so earthquake will hit.

I see i see. Hmm even then i wish it was clarified better in the site. The fact that pokemon can now have multiple types is kinda cool but it also means you have to learn more for that pokemon for weaknesses and strengths (i dont remember multi types in gen 2) and some of these new moves that ive not seen before like flame charge. I still dont quite understand what it means by raise X by one level though.

Huh....seems like im not able to get any soul silver pokemon in X or Y unless i get black or white it seems.....Are legendaries from there still unable to breed?

All legendaries (bar manaphy) are unable to breed no matter what. And yes soulsilver -> B/W/B2/W2 -> X/Y although unless its a special pokemon id not worry as its a real pain to transfer many pokemon from soulsilver to gen 5 and of course youll need pokebank to get them to gen 6 from there.

Well i have poke bank so that isnt a problem for me. So ill have to get gen 5...was not a fan of it at all. How far do i have to get in order to do trades?

you have to complete pokemon games now to transfer from one game to another?
