Here is where you can discuss a crossroads for James and his Cacnea in "Once There Were Greenfields!"

    My review to come forthwith.

I don't trust my body clock, so better safe than sorry.

I thought it was cool to see gardenia again.
But it wasnt a very exciting episode.
I didnt think James should have gotten rid of cacnea.

i thought it was horrible how Gardenia was pressuring James to give up a pokemon he cares about so much.
    "i'll make Cacnea stronger James..."
"you'll never get drain punch right James..."
i think she told James to use Drain Punch because she knew it could help get her point across. I hate people like that, Gardenia has this whole "holier than thou" attitude to her, pretending that she was being charitable to James' Cacnea, but all she proved was how selfish of a person she is.

if i were james, i would've refused and told her to catch a Cacnea herself. or slapped her, whichever comes first.

If what you're saying is true, then I'll despise this episode when I see it, myself (I was asleep when it aired). Although, I'm not ready to disparage Gardenia/Natane just yet, until Dogasu covers the episode. I say that as PUSA has been known to "revise" characters, such as ramping up Ash's arrogance (particularly in late BF) and Dawn's egocentric approach (like in Kengo's first episode, for the best example).

Chances are, I'll be fine with Natane, but Gardenia might be another story.

That said, I'll totally agree with you in advance. Heh.

It was a sad episode; I loved how the background music for Make A Wish was used when James gave Cacnea to Gardenia.

Su. It was a very sad episode. I mean I had no problem with how Gardenia was acting nor did I notice but just seeing Cacnea getting so beat up and being unable to use Drain Punch.

Still Gardenia wasn't like she was back in the last few episodes she was in. She was more kinda tone down this episode but really I guess really she didn't play a big role at all in the episode.

Su, I kinda sad that Cacnea left and really Cacnea is just one of Team Rocket's pokemon that never really got love at all as that it could have. expectually ever since Carnivoir came along too. Su.

Good episode but it is going to be tough to not seeing her again. Su.

I just got finished watching this episode, it was so sad...I can't believe Cacnea's gone... Of course I did see the Japanese version a couple months so I knew it was coming but at least I could understand what was going on this time. I was tearing up when that flashback came on about James and Cacnea meeting for the first time, it was sad. I agree with Reyna that ever since Carnivoir came into the picture Cacnea kinda got ignored. But James really cared about Cacnea, I think Gardenia felt that vibe that's why she said she would help Cacnea to become stronger. You guys remember that episode in the first season? I think it was called "The Punchy Pokemon". This episode helped Ash and his Primeape to become closer, and the guy with the Hitmonchan offered to make it stronger, remember? Althrough both these episodes are different they really showcase how there respective trainers felt about them. Gardenia may be a fanatic when it comes to grass pokemon but she's also a Gym leader so she probarly knew what would have been best for Cacnea in the long run.

Ugh. I didn't enjoy this episode. It totally sends the wrong message to the viewers in my opinion.

"Hey, kids, give up and let someone else do the hard work. You're not good enough."

Yeah. That's a lesson I want put on the air waves. What would have been better would have been James training with Cacnea and either A.) Getting some coaching from Gardenia, or B.) actually learning Drain Punch. Not saying both these wouldn't be cliche, but at least it doesn't glorify giving up when things get tough or look bleak.

I'm able to sit back and be okay with a lot of logical errors in the anime universe (Heck, if James would have temporarily lent Cacnea to Gardenia for special training or something, I would have been better with it), but this one is just plain wrong. We're okaying quitting. Way to send a positive message out there.

Other than that, though, it had some decently cool battle scenes. And I got to see Chimchar get punched in the face. I laughed pretty hard at that one.

Yeah, that was pretty sad. I wished James would have keptit , I think they both learned alot about each other before he gave Cacnea; and that would have really helped down the line. Oh well =(

Sad, but they made James seem like he had something wrong with him up in here. *points at head*
He cried; he acted like he was leaving his parents because he didn't want to clean his room, and Cacnea cried too for a strange reason. XD
But overall a nice episode, not the most boring of fillers. 7/10

James getting sad about leaving his Pokemon is not new. For example, he left his Victreebell, Chimeco, and Weezing.

Yes, but this is the first time James gets sad over leaving a Pokemon due to his battling abilities.

I liked this episode very much. It was very emotional and sad. I felt so sorry thta james had so little confidence in himself. Not to mention tha Dawn was a little too relectuant to help James out.

Boy, it's gonna be weird seeing TR acting all evil again in future episodes.

Wouldn't it have been better if Dawn actually refused to help James? lol if Misty was still in the group, she would have probably said: "Have you lost your mind Ash Ketchum!?! Helping out the enemies!" Hehe I miss their fights ^^

I never liked Gardenia in the first place, for a gym leader, she sure does travel a lot.. hmm

According to Bulbapedia, he gave Gardenia Cacnea's Poke Ball, not technically releasing it. So, there is a chance he could come back for it. We'll see.

However, if the writers are trying to put forth about James' less than stellar battle abilities, well, doesn't that fly in the face of his forays into Poke-ringing and Poke-orienteering? Those two semi-recent episodes had him a very competent light. Sighs.

As for Cacnea getting the shaft since Carnivine popped up, yep. But I maintained that since Day... Two. Heh.

Just watched this episode. And it's official, I hate Gardenia. I didn't like her much before this, but that did it I believe.
Despite that I did appreciate the fact, that for once, that it wasn't just "Ding! The Pokemon just learned a new attack!" They actually showed the necessity of training.
    Poor James. *Hugs him*

The episode was sad and intresting in Jap but, I haven't seen the English one not yet i have to see at my recording disk if it record. I will answer the Eniglish one after i seen the English one.

It was a sad episode; I loved how the background music for Make A Wish was used when James gave Cacnea to Gardenia.

I noticed the song too~ <3 It made me all giddy x_x"

Awww, this was one of my very favorites, I like it when they show the trainer's emotional side, it makes their personalities stick out more. Anyways, this episode actually had me in tears... although it makes me sad that James always has to leave his Pokemon behind for their own good or the good of other people.

    He's so kind-hearted~ <3

n_n It reminded me of when Ash left Charizard for the first time though, especially when he ran off in the end.

Imo, James's patience was really thin, along with his lack of self-confidence. Even though he was trying to do what was best for Cacnea... for a Team Rocket member, he gave up much too easily. =\

    Wonderful epi though~ 10.5/10!

It was cool to see Gardenia again, but I still don't like her dub voice.
    Little eight year old Ichi-chan was crying in me during this episode... because I use to love James so much and I felt so sad for him. ^^;

Cacnea has strong will. It's too bad we couldn't have seen that sooner.

Ok last night i watch my recorder disk and I'm starting to not like Gardenia at all i use to think that she was neat Gym leader like Erika from Kanto. But i can tell that she REALLY wanted James Cacnea by making James fell shame of training Cacnea not well, and to me i figure why they lost that Tag Battle because if it weren't Gardenia change James next move on the battle they could of won that battle i think. And i had lots of tears in my eyes from seeing the sad scene when James saying like "It's over" and then i forgot the rest of the lines from having tears.

I kinda don't see Gardenia in any kind of bad light. I mean I know she wanted Cacnea but really it was James's choice in the end and he wanted to do what was best for his pokemon. I mean it is really nothing new for James to do something that is best for his pokemon and that is really sweet. *hugs James* It really made me sad that he had to give up Cacnea since they were really close. Also for some reason I just can't see Carnivoir with any kind of personality that Cacnea ever have.

Teeheehee I so love how Dawn kept mentioning that helping Team Rocket would only make it worse for them. Teeheehee That was funny since Ash was so willing to help James. Teeheehee

Then about James's battling skills. Well I don't want to say that he has none but really compare to Jessie, he doesn't really have much of any battling skills. I mean he did really well in Poke-ringing and Poke-orienteering but they didn't really focus on his battling skills but on how he interacted with his pokemon. Still it is kinda sad to see him lose Cacnea like that.

Teeheehee Maybe the next time we see Cacnea in it's evolve form and able to do Drain Punch. Teeheehee
