    [PokeCommunity.com] Pesky Status Conditions

Ever since R/B/Y, status conditions have been a part of all the games. They can either be beneficial to you, or cause you a real headache. There a ton of different kinds of status conditions, including Burn, Sleep, Confusion, Poison, Attract, Freeze, and Paralysis. Of course, there are many more such as Curse and Flinching, but those are the main and most common conditions seen.

My question to you all is which of the conditions do you find the most annoying when you are inflicted with them by the opponent? Which of the conditions do you find yourself inflicting on the opponent the most?

I really hate confusion because it's a worse version of paralyze. It's all luck and it actually does deal some damage when you hurt yourself.

Toxic is another status I really hate it gets worse and worse and worse and worse..

I hate all conditions, but especially paralysis since it slows you down a lot and sometimes prevents you from attacking, sleep which downright shuts you down and you have to wait turns to get back up, and of course confusion, infatuation (yes I hate Attract) and flinch which always turn against me when I'm on the receiving end.

Apart from other status conditions, i really hate the Poison state for ex: Toxic, it always get worse and worse and always result the Pokemon Fainting which really slow down my process to win a battle and also i hate Paralysis, just as Hikamaru said It slow us down and prevent us from attacking the Opponent.

They're all annoying, but they're supposed to be, aren't they? Burn is the worst to get in a competitive battle, not only gives it damage every turn, but it cuts the attack stat in half which you can't even get rid of through switching out. Physical sweepers get instantly useless.

I can't even begin to explain how much I hate infatuation. 50% chance of not doing anything!? That's so ridiculous! And burn? I didn't even know that it cut attack power. Let me tell you, I learned that the hard way.

How could I forget my sheer hatred of infatuation. Between that and confusion, I have gotten so angry at the games. Battles take forever to get through when a Pokemon is confused, infatuated, or both.

The other ones I can handle, but those two are just so annoying.

The number of times that infatuation and confusion have screwed me over are too numerous to count. It's really very frustrating, especially when a Pokémon like Golbat or Haunter spams Confuse Ray.

When a Pokémon is both paralyzed and confused or infatuated and confused, it's already done for. I don't know why it was decided that the confusion check is done before checking if you're unable to move, but it's really frustrating. I don't even want to think about what happens when you have all three of them.

confusion is by far the most annoying, but i find poison to be the worst to get. my thing with confusion is when you use it on another pokemon they'll more than likely still strike you, but when your opponent confuses your pokemon you'll more than likely end up hurting yourself. poison is just terrible because of how common it is to get poisoned and the slow chipping away of your hp even after the battle is so annoying.

Sleep or frozen are usually the easiest to deal with imo. both go away within a few turns and so i typically just wait them out

I don't think I've ever really dealt with Infatuation much before, huh. Or even Curse, come to think of it.

But among all the ones I have dealt with? Paralysis and confusion. :T The former just gets annoying if it actually stops you from attacking several times in a row, the latter...well, same basic thing I guess, but with worse results. Actually, I guess I don't even mind paralysis that much, but I really don't like confusion.

Especially if it's because of a Swagger. I might as well just assume my pokemon will punch itself hard in the face all the time then, chances be damned.

As for what I'll put on an opponent? Paralysis is probably the most common one. But if possible, I'd rather poison them or burn them. I prefer those over most of the others because of the damage they inflict.

    /oh ho ho

I remember having HUGE trouble with Morty on Crystal because he kept using hypnosis + dream eater gengar on me. PESKY STATUS CONDITIONS!!

I like using status generally across various video games, because it's relatively subtle and uncommon, and I'm a bit of a hipster or something.

In Pokemon, it's the random criticals that I hate, but they nerfed those in gen 6, so I'm happy. I don't feel status is worthwhile most of the time (particularly in the AI's hands) as it tends to do nothing more than delay fights unless a particular strategy is developed around it (ex. Breloom Spore into Focus Punch). Given the unreliabiity of the moves (many are inaccurate) or the status itself (confusion; flinch), or the situationality of the effects (heal block; taunt, et al.) making them unworthy of one of four move slots, I do feel that many effects are a bit stupid and don't really work in a turn-based game where combatants can very easily be taken out in only one turn.

My most-inflicted is probably seeding... you know, from Leech Seed. I like using HP absorption with monsters that are hard to KO.

I totally agree with you there. Later in the game you just want to KO enemy Pokémon in one hit and knowing four types of damaging moves works really well too often and I rarely bother to use status moves at all outside of Gym and Elite Four battles. Sleep Powder or Thunder Wave does come in handy when you want to catch a Pokémon though.

All status conditions are pesky to have but I would say my least favourites are Confusion and Poison (Toxic sucks so much!) when your Pokemon hurts itself it's like scoring an own goal!

At least in Gen 6 there can be the saving grace of your Pokemon curing itself if you've maxed the friendship in Pokemon-Amie! It's very cool when that happens!

I didn't know about the Burn thing either!!

My personal favorite to inflict is probably Paralysis, simply because it's so devastating and reliable. It cripples their speed -and- their chances of even hitting you, which basically counts as accuracy dropping. It never goes away on its own like Sleep and Freeze do, it has high accuracy, and it's the cornerstone of one of my favorite team members (Zygarde) by way of Glare.

The worst to be inflicted by, for me... technically? Probably Confusion, if only because of how many wild Pokemon use it -very- accurately. I also have really bad luck with it. I've hit myself with it five times in a row more than a couple times, yet when I inflict it... they never seem to hurt themselves. Though if we're factoring status inflicting abilities, I'd give it to Paralysis entirely due to the ability Static... I just hate it so... so much.

I find the Paralysis most annoying followed by Sleep and Freeze.
The conditions that I often use are including Sleep, Paralysis, Poison and Burn in order.

Can I not see confusion status ever again? kthxbai.

Also, is it just me, or do Fire-type Pokémon NEVER thaw out from being frozen in Generation V unless they use Flare Blitz or such?
