I'm not sure about the tripping.

Yep, a Sony Super Smash Bros.
    official site

    Gameplay Stuff:
    -Story Mode
    -Runs at 60 FPS
-Smash Bros gameplay with some differences to keep it apart from it's inspiration
-3rd party characters to be in (Snake and Sonic???)
-3 supers for each characters. You collect orbs from attacking the opponent to build your bar for a super.
-The only way for you to kill the opponent is via a super.
-Stages mix two series together. There's a Ratchet and Clank stage where Hydra from God of War appears.

    Confirmed Characters:
    -
    Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal)
    -Parappa the Rapper
    -Sly Cooper
    -Kratos (God of War)
    -Radec (Killzone 2)
    -Fat Princess

    Screenies:
    Spoiler:

    ...And a video

    Opinions?
As a Smash fan and one who grew up with Sony (despite not really owning a PS3), I'm pretty excited for it. Sly and Sweet Tooth are pretty awesome, and I'm sure Jak is in so I'm finally gonna end up buying a PS3 and get this game.

I really hope Crash, Spyro and Snake are in, now with 3rd party characters being confirmed. Always wanted to use Crash in SSB.

I saw this and it really is a rip off of SSB, but I don't care.

I will be getting this and I can't wait for it.

    This.

As for characters, I doubt we'll see Spyro or Crash- I would think that would cause some sort of rights issue, seeing as they've both gone multi-console AND been bought out by other companies. Same for Sonic and Snake, seeing as they're both in SSB.

I'll be shocked of Jak, Ratchet, Nathan Drake, and Sack Boy don't end up in this somehow. I'm also half expecting Cloud and Sephiroth, and MAYBE some other Sony FF characters, but that doesn't seem very likely.

Sack Boy is kind of a shoe-in, considering a LittleBigPlanet field was shown in the video, but I'll definitely be surprised should Jak and Ratchet fail to show up. However, in terms of Nathan Drake, there's nothing really super or abnormal about him, he's a normal human treasure hunter. It feels kind of 40/60 on whether he'll appear or not.

But Cloud's an obvious appearance, since millions of fanboys would rain down upon Sony with the force of millions of enraged fanboys if he didn't appear.

    This.

As for characters, I doubt we'll see Spyro or Crash.
Ehh, the demand for them is actually very high so I can't imagine Superbot not fighting to get them in the game somehow. It all depends on Activision.
Though if we do get them, we'll most likely get their recent iterations, not the classics.

As for Drake. If they can make a moveset for Sweet Tooth (I don't remember much from the twisted metal games but did the guy even get out of the car much?) then I'm sure they can make Drake stand out.

    FAT PRINCESS YEAAAAAAAAAAH

Seriously, but, if I had a PS3, I'd definitely get this. Hell, I'll probably end up getting one sooner or later.

From what I've seen the game looks so very dark. Characters like Sly Cooper seem to blend in with the background and I can imagine it being annoying to play if this is a trend. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

I like the maps a lot. I like that they're mash-ups of two different worlds and they have a lot of interaction with the characters, it sounds like, so that should be interesting. It'll at least give them a jumping point to do something really different with the game instead of making it a cut-and-paste SSB knock-off. (Not that SSB hasn't done interactive maps before but... it could be interesting, especially with God of War vs. Patapon going on in the background. o_O)

I just worry about the character roster. Despite having a fair few IPs, there aren't really any stand-out characters that Sony has. I think the Penny Arcade comic from the other day is exactly what I was thinking when this was announced. The blog post that goes with it is pretty good too. From Tycho: "Can we agree that The Fat Princess from Fat Princess does not represent top-chef roster selection?" Yeaaah, they're going pretty far back and digging pretty deep to find some of these characters, it looks like. I mean, I've never been into Sony all that much--all I really play on their systems are games from external developers--but I haven't even heard of all of the characters they've released so far. It's impossible to not compare this to SSB and with that game, most of the characters are at least from very successful IPs so if you haven't played them, you've probably heard of them. There are some random ones that no one (in the West) knows but they don't make up the majority of the roster which is what I fear the Sony version might be like. :/

Yeh, I agree with you Erica.
They are going to have to get 3rd party people in to get a nice variety like SSB has.

I love the idea of Fat Princess being in it though; that is just pure comical and is clearly going to be like Kirby! XD

Even with third parties, I don't really see the characters meshing together. They're just too different - how can you have some random Killzone meathead or bloodthirsty Kratos in the same game as Sackboy or Fat Princess? They just don't go together and I don't think there's going to be as much chemistry as there is in SSB.

That said, I love the look of the stages and the gameplay looks pretty solid, so if they can somehow pull off the character roster this should be a pretty good game.

I was thinking about that and maybe that might be part of the charm. It is going to be so random and, let's face it, good fun that it will be a laugh.

I dunno. They got Snake to work well with Olimar in SSB; I don't think anything like that would surprise me anymore.

I guess it helps that due to the type of game it is, there doesn't really need to be any consistency between characters.

So having Fat Princess with Kratos seems... fine! XD
