Looks like a fault with your emulator! Which one are you using?

Gotcha! We generally recommend not using any version of VBA as it's known to have inaccuracies and glitches like this.

We recommend an emulator like bgb or SameBoy. These are more accurate and less buggy.

Thanks for the fastest replies man. If it's just this visual bug, I'm pretty fine with it. Thank you for everything for 20 years (:

So happy that this is finally out! I understand that BGB is the recommended emulator, but how does mGba fare? Asking because it's considered to be very accurate for GBA emulation and is often recommended, so I'm assuming the same could be applied for GB/GBC games? Thank you for all your hard work!

It should work. We do recommend mGBA for our GBA games so GB emulations should be fine. Not sure about SGB colours though.

And thank you so much for your kind words!

Thank you so much for this. I loved the original and prism so i am beyond stoked to play this.

I will definitely have to give this new version a play through. Finding the OG version of Brown by complete accident is what got me into Rom Hacking all those years ago, so seeing one of my hacks (Red++) listed in the credits made teenage me squee and feel like she finally made it as a hacker.

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for all the kind words for our update of this classic game. It really means the world to all the developers!

A quick note to players using Delta on iOS!

Pokémon Brown runs great with this emulator (it is for sure my emulator of choice on iOS), however, it has no SGB mode right now. This means that if you play on Delta, you will be playing Brown in black and white. This is great for those who want the classic Game Boy experience, but if you wanted to experience Brown with its SGB colours on iOS, you can download SameBoy from the App Store. This has full SGB support!

Funnily enough, my story is finally playing Prism in late 2022 after knowing about it since 2016. Then I learned it had a prequel in its discord channel: Brown. I played it, loved it, but I felt it was a shame it still used the original RB trainer sprites, and the pokédex not being completable on solo playtrough was a pity. Knowing the dissassembly was there, I thought it couldn't be that difficult to just update a couple trainer sprites and change the encounter tables a little, though I knew nothing about romhacking, it couldn't be that difficult right?. I didn't know where I was stepping into... but it's been such a fun ride. Seeing all the amazing dissassembly projects with its ideas, polish, enhancements... it kept me motivated and just wondering "Maybe I can add this little thing...?" which eventually led to more and more features being implemnted. It's come to a point in which it would have been easier to remake Brown in dissassembly, but would take too much time to do that than what was left to do... and here we are.

I was absolutely SHOCKED when I saw this posted on Reddit. I simply assumed that this wouldn't be released for at least another year or something for some reason even though I could tell from the RainbowDevs website that significant progress had been made. I can't tell you how fast I started playing. Congrats to every single person on the dev team on the release!

Are there any perks for completing the Pokedex, bingo cards like in Prism, or any sidequests?

can I battle online with another players?
This depends on your emulator. Some can, but you will need to configure them. I'd suggest searching for advice online!

There is a big perk for completing the Pokédex, so it is worth it if you can!

    Update
    12 September 2024

We're aware of a bug in that can cause players to become locked in the final room of the Elite 4. For now, this can be resolved simply by saving and resetting you game, talking to the NPC again, and the door will open.

A proper fix for this will be released soon!

is mgba supporting online battling? if not which emulator do?
It's not something I know, I'm afraid! You'll need to do some research. Have a look around and ask in some of the forums, or on the Discord server. Someone might know!
