Pokemon Go is coming out on a market where in-app purchases are the norm, unfortunately. Look at Pokemon Shuffle. Part of the reason why Pokemon Shuffle is so unenjoyable to me is that it relies too heavily on overused/cliché mobile gaming mechanics. Some of these mechanics include:
In my opinion, how successful this game is will be directly affected by the amount of in-app purchases there are and how these purchases affect the overall experience. Pay to win, or pay to play. Either way, both are terrible.
- Set amount of lives that regenerate every X minutes.
- Premium currency that gives lives.
- Non-premium currency that can be bought with premium currency.
