    Hello, I'm Tenga from japan.
For the long time, I was very curious about Foreigner's playing style of pokemon.
Playing while midnight, I am engaging more foreigner than japanese, mostly from America and France. Some of Them are really good, with good Party, moves and Item lineups. But Majority of Them use all Color Different Pokemon inside of Master ball, also most of the pokemon they use is dragon or legendary. It is very cultural shock and difficult to play in mid night because They always cut the line when My ice moves kill them.
In Japan, Pokemon is played by wide generation, from kindergarten children to working adult and majority of online players are high school student~working adult. You will see many of Them cutting line but Their parties and moves are planned and tactical. Never see something like I always see in midnight against foreigner.
6dragon/legendary with different colour inside masterball.
Pokemon is really competitive game and online players are figuring out new tactics every day in japan.
How about in foreign country? Who are the major player of pokemon? Is there any tournament? I'm very curious

    Sorry for my bad english

Pokemon battling is just as competitive in America as anywhere else. I would definitely no recommend random battles cause there are a lot of disconnects as you mentioned and there play is sub-par quite often. If you want real legitimate competitive play against a foreigner go too Smogon as that is main place to go because they have some of the best around the world their on a daily basis.

Hi Tenga! I'm going to move this thread to Pokemon Gaming Central, since it's about people playing the games instead of the franchise in general. :)

But to answer your question, some competitive players do play on wi-fi on their actual games, but most people I know that play competitively at all do it on their computers instead. They can create the perfect Pokemon without needing to spend ages breeding and training, and then can battle and test new teams and in addition people are bound to "tiers" so they can't use the Pokemon that are imbalanced to the point that they're impossible to beat when trained correctly. Chances are, people playing with all legendaries in Master Balls don't consider EV Training or IVs, so their legendaries aren't up to their full potential.

Although I do find your description of Pokemon in Japan really interesting! As an American I don't get to hear that often, so thanks for sharing :) As far as if there are tournaments here, there are the occasional tournaments that the Pokemon Company runs, but in general we don't have many tournaments, haha.

I wish America was more like Japan. Here, people seem to get made fun of for playing Pokemon, as it's thought to be a "childish" game. I don't think that at all. It appeals to all ages and there's plenty of things to do in it, now matter how old or young you are.

From what I understand though, people will disconnect in the middle of wifi battles all the time, regardless of nationality. A friend of mine is always saying Japanese people disconnect on him, so lol I guess it's just a personal thing. Some people just can't take a loss. ;( Your English is pretty good, by the way! You got your point across, so it's fine. :)

Did you use google translate? Just curious. Anyways, pokemon is not as big in America as it is in Japan. As for the cutting out, everyone does that. Infact, I often run into Japanese kids who do that.

Yeah, the disconnects from battles does imo seem to be a thing not restricted to nationality, and probably would put it down to some people wishing to preserve their battle record.

As for the teams with six dragons/legendaries teams, it's probably something more evident with casual players, often kids (quite often in western society what is popular, particularly with many males, are the 'cool' legendaries and dragons, so it's not surprising to me). And usually such people won't be versed in things like EVs or whatnot. There's certainly a large number of non-Japanese players who use more in the way of tactics and varied Pokemon choice, but as said some of those use online programs. Places like smogon and even this forum's Competitve Battling Centre section is testament that there's many of us who play the game that way though.
