i've seen this type of challenge done on another forum site and i want to try this out. this is the challenge:
You play through either Ruby or Sapphire (no emerald!) using Pokemon of only one type (including Duel types who must share the chosen type)

If your chosen starter is not of the type you picked, you are forbidden to use it.
No matter how stuck you get you must not use any other types.

You are allowed to use only ONE set of TMs. No trading to get TM's either through other Ru/Sa games or for those of you who have FR/LG.

As with TMs, you cannot trade between games for pokemon. This means obtaining level 5 pokemon via eggs from other games.. Trading for evolution is allowed (Machamp, Alakazam, Golem, Clamperl, etc etc etc). You may trade between other Ru/Sa games only. I must state for a final time NO TRADING TO OBTAIN NEW POKEMON ONLY FOR EVOLUTION. Ahem..

After you pass certain events or feel the need to update, you reply to the topic with details on how your progress is going, the status of your team, how hard it is, etc.

If a Pokemon evolves into a Pokemon of your type, you may use it (i.e choosing fighting and using Torchic.) if you use a pokemon who is your type and then evolves out of that type (i.e if you pick water and use Surskit, he evolves into Masquerain which is not water) you can use that Pokemon only if you keep it un-evolved.

The challenge is considered complete upon the reaching, or defeat of Rayquaza.

Now, these are the types that are taken:
    Water-smarty arty
    Bug-me
    Flying-alter ego
    Grass-outlaw
    Fighting-doug
These are the types that are left:
    Normal
    Ground

I think this would be more suited to Pokemon Trivia & Games...

Yeah it would be, and it's not that bad of an idea but don't post ads. You'll give this forum a bad name. Next time leave it anonymous.

This goes in Pokemon trivia. I'll send it over there for you.

(im not trying to be mean)
    im pretending

Yeah I get it now, sounds cool *Goes to play the ruby version only using water type pokemon*

Right on! I have a question; can we use other types for HM slaves, as long as we don't use them in battle (E.g. carrying around a Zigzagoon with Cut, Strength, Rock Smash, and Surf)? My chosen type is flying.

Here's my progress so far I just got my pokeballs a moment ago now I'm searching for a wingull these are the pokemon I've found so far, Zigzagoons about 20 of them, 2 poochyenas, 0 Wingulls.

ok to clear up your questions,
1.snake bullet: you just have to play through all of ruby or sapphire with one pokemon type. for example: i'm going to try to beat the elite 4 and rayquaza by only using bug type pokemon in battle. i can use dual type bugs like beautifly or surskit. i can also use pokemon that evolve into the type.ex: i choose the fighting type and start with torchic. if i plan on to keep torchic from evolving, i can't use it, but if i want it to be a combusken or blaziken, then i have to evolve it or not use it. also, i cannot trade for pokemon or trade for extra tms or hms.
    2. alter ego: yes, you can use slaves of a different type as long as you don't battle with them. for some reason that everything but your slave has fainted and you are in the middle of the ocean and haven't saved in a while, battle with it :\

ok, i'll admit that i haven't started my challenge in sapphire yet. i was waiting for it to catch on until i started. since there have been 4 posts in 1 day, i will restart my game even though i have a shiny hariyama on it. i have no GBA link cable and my closest pokemon playing friend doesn't either and i don't restart my ruby because of my 100+ pokemon and my shiny tentacool. sorry for talking so much.

Okay, my current team amounts to a level 5 Wingull. Tried to get a Beautifly but my wurmple turned into Cascoon, >_< dunno if I have the patience to raise another.

ok i'm gonna try to see if i can get my friend to try the challenge, too. he isn't a PC member so i'll update for him as well. i'll let you know what type he will be ASAP.

Yay just got through the fights in the museum with a play time of 6 hours and 35 minutes, my team members right now are, Wingull level 20, Marshtomp level 20 and Tentacool level 20.

ok, it's official. my friend is gonna do the fighting type challenge. i'll update for him since he's no PC member. also, here's my update for my sapphire version.
    pokemon: lv.15 surskit, lv.15 beautifly,lv.9 nincada,lv.6 zigzagoon (slave). time: 4hrs. 24mins. i just entered dewford town.

...What about Psychic?? Has it been taken?

Psychic isn't enough of a challenge IMO. you get possibly the best special sweeper in the game after the first gym (abra -> kadabra-> alakazam) and another good psychic in gardevoir. and on top of that, psychic has one weakness and is not very effective against the rare to find steel type. it would be a breeze to beat it with psychic. so to make this challenge harder, you can only choose non OU types. you can choose to do normal or ground, which are the only types left at the moment.:)

I'm here with an update my playtime now is 10 hours twelve minutes, I have three badges and I'm training outside Mauville city my team members are Marshtomp level 36 (I'll keep it that way untill it learns earthquake), Wingull level 24 (next in line for training), Tentacool level 24, Gyarados level 20 and two zigzagoons (Hm slaves they also pick up items for me)

Question. If you pick Ground and select Mudkip as a starter, can you level Mudkip up to 16 without fighting mission-required battles(Gyms, Aquas/Magmas), and then use it as a Marshtomp, because Marshtomp is Water/Ground?

Please read all the posts before you ask since this question has already been answered.
