Yay, my favorite computer based pokemon! (wait, what?)
Porygon:
Porygon is the first artificial Pokémon that was ever created. Porygon has a pink polygonal body with a blue stomach, blue triangular prism feet and a blue rectangular prism tail. Porygon has a pink, polygonal head that ends in a blue beak and has hexagon eyes. It does not breathe. Porygon is made completely out of programming code. Built into this code is a Silph copyright protection preventing duplication through electronic means.
In Generation I, Porygon's move, Conversion, alters its own type to its opponent's type.
Porygon is capable of using various Ice and Electrical attacks, along with a few Psychic abilities, the rare ability to wield Tri Attack and the one-of-a-kind ability to use Sharpen.
Even though Porygon is an unevolved and non-legendary Pokémon, it can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Porygon, and its evolved forms, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z, are the only known Pokémon that learn Conversion and Conversion2. Porygon is also the only known Pokémon that learns Sharpen.
Porygon, because they're man-made, are generally found in computers or in labs and other buildings working with people, which makes it almost uncatchable. However, Porygon are found wild in Sinnoh's Trophy Garden.
Porygon is completely artificial and doesn't need to eat. However, it is still seen eating Pokémon food in Pokémon Snap.
Porygon has only appeared in the banned episode, Electric Soldier Porygon. This episode caused seizures to almost 700 children in Japan due to a flashing strobe effect, and was therefore never aired again anywhere in the world. Since then, Porygon and its evolutions have never appeared in another episode. Sob...
A Porygon made a cameo during the "World of Pokémon" opening narration of the first five movies.
In the manga, Green obtains a Porygon during his time in Celadon City, and it has since then become a core member of his team. Prior to Volume 13, it has evolved into Porygon2.
Pokedex Entries
Red A Pokémon that consists entirely of programming code. Capable of moving freely in cyberspace.
Blue- Same as above.
Yellow The only Pokémon people anticipate can fly into space. None has managed the feat yet, however.
Stadium A man-made Pokémon that consists entirely of programming code. It is capable of moving freely in cyberspace.
Gold It is a manmade Pokémon. Since it doesn't breathe, people are eager to try it in any environment.
Silver A manmade Pokémon that came about as a result of research. It is programmed with only basic motions.
Crystal An artificial Pokémon created due to extensive research, it can perform only what is in its program.
Stadium 2 It is a manmade Pokémon. Since it doesn't breathe, people are eager to try it in any environment.
Ruby Porygon is capable of reverting itself entirely back to program data and entering cyberspace. This Pokémon is copy-protected so it cannot be duplicated by copying.
Sapphire Porygon is capable of reverting itself entirely back to program data and entering cyberspace. This Pokémon is copy-protected so it cannot be duplicated by copying.
Emerald It is capable of reverting itself entirely back to program data in order to enter cyberspace. A Porygon is copy-protected so it cannot be duplicated.
FireRed Using the most advanced technologies, scientists finally succeeded in making the first artificial Pokémon.
LeafGreen A Pokémon that consists entirely of programming code. Capable of moving freely in cyberspace.
Diamond The world's first artificially created Pokémon. It can travel through electronic space.
Pearl The world's first artificially created Pokémon. It can travel through electronic space.
Trivia:
Porygon is the only Pokémon that evolves by trade twice: Once holding the Up-Grade into Porygon2, and a second time (as Porygon2) into Porygon-Z when holding a Dubious Disc.
Electric Soldier Porygon, which featured Porygon, caused seizures and irritated eyes. It was not Porygon itself, but Pikachu's Thunderbolt which caused the problematic blue and red flash - even so, neither Porygon nor its evolutions have been seen in the anime since, except for the intro to one of the movies.
Porygon is the only Pokémon who evolves into a smaller Pokémon, then evolves into a larger Pokémon
Despite being "copy protected" by Silph Co., Porygon can be bred, and of course, be cloned.
Porygon's evolutionary line is the only three-stage evolutionary line that has all three knowing Giga Impact and Hyper Beam.
Porygon have three signature moves, along with Vespiquen the most out of all Pokémon. It should be noted that before Generation III, Porygon actually had four signature moves, the fourth being Zap Cannon, thusly meaning it had the most signature moves. However, in Generation III, Zap Cannon was accessible to many other Pokémon meaning it could no longer be classified as a "true" signature move.
Origins:
It appears to be based on the concept of an origami crane made with primitive 3D graphics software.
Porygon's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon.
Porygon 2:
Porygon2 looks very similar to its pre-evolution, except that all of Porygon2's edges have been rounded out.
Porygon2 has the same abilities as its pre-evolution, except that Porygon2 is capable of using Defense Curl instead of Sharpen.
Porygon2 is the only Generation II Pokémon to never appear in the anime. Popular opinion is that this is because of the incident involving Electric Soldier Porygon
Trivia:
This is the only Pokémon with a numerical figure in its name.
Porygon2 is the only Generation II Pokémon never to appear in the anime, which might have something to do with the EP038 incident.
This Pokémon has a cry very similar to Girafarig, with the difference being Porygon 2's cry is higher pitched.
It is one of the two Pokémon that's both smaller and lighter than the Pokémon that it evolves from. The other is Bellossom. This could be a reference to technology getting smaller and lighter as time goes on.
It is the only Pokémon that both evolves by trading and needs to be traded to evolve.
Like Porygon, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. The change in form by evolution from Porygon to Porygon2 represents the concept of subdivision in 3D computer graphics.
Porygon2's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The 2 on its name is because it is the second in its line of evolution, evolving from Porygon.
Porygon...Z!
Porygon-Z appears similar to Porygon2, albeit darker in color. Most notably, its head and body are completely upside down to go along with its status as a glitch. The neck has been flipped around so that it is now on top of its head, almost like a horn. Its legs are attached at an odd angle as well. The blue pattern on a Porygon2's stomach is also different; it now appears as a blue ring on Porygon-Z. Finally, its eyes are large and yellow with rings around the pupils, emphasizing the Pokémon being shocked.
Being a cybernetic Pokémon, it exhibits the behavior that was programmed into it as a Porygon. However, it may also display emotions and some erratic behavior that was not a part of its programming. Whether this is intentional or a glitch is unknown.
As with Porygon2, it is currently believed that Porygon-Z will not appear in the anime as a result of the Electric Soldier Porygon incident, except possibly as a brief cameo.
Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon whose Japanese name is spelled with a character from a foreign alphabet.
Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon to learn Trick Room by level, so far.
Porygon-Z shares the highest Special Attack stat in the game (excluding legendaries) with Alakazam.
Porygon-Z weighs as much as Dawn. (And that's saying something!)
Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon that evolves via trade twice.
The Dubious Disc's name implies that Porygon-Z, unlike its pre-evolution, was not authorized by Silph Co. Its appearance as a glitched version of Porygon2 also seems to reinforce this.
Like Porygon and Porygon2, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. It is essentially a glitched Porygon2 with some minor differences. Being glitched, it could be based loosely on the Glitch Pokémon MissingNo..
Porygon-Z's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The "Z" could either refer to the Z axis in 3D coordination systems or that Porygon-Z is the last of its evolutionary line (since the letter Z is the last letter of the Latin alphabet). It is also possible that the "Z" was used as a corruption of "2", due to the fact that Porygon-Z is a glitched version of Porygon2

Well Maybe Porygon isn't actually that popular.
