Price Drop in Nintendo DS

I think lowering prices when big DS titles are coming (Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, Nintendogs) by year's end is a good thing. It's a way to get more system off the shelves to play the games, and I'm sure this is also a good strategy for the holiday season, cheap system and many anticipated games.

If one wants to compete in business, one must offer the best bang for your buck.

Well, I'm guessing PSP won't be getting a price drop anytime soon, but soon Firmware version 2.0 will be available in North America, meaning Internet connectivity, picture sending, and wallpapers for Americans who haven't already installed the Japanese one. Along with titles like Grand Theft Auto and Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII coming around the corner, not to mention Final Fantasy VII- Advent Children in September, and a new ceramic white PSP to be released, I think PSP will pick up enough sales without the need of a price drop.

Personally, I think NDS dropped their prices just because, as more and more average gaming consumers buy the system of their choice, more and more PSP games aimed towards their age group will be released. Within the next half-year, and especially over Christmas, I'm predicting a pickup in PSP sales, simply because as of now, PSP and DS have no huge titles out.(DS had Super Mario 64 DS though)

Yes, but the DS has BIG titles coming out in the future. FF3(remake of the NES vers) FF:CC, Secret of Mana(its on nintendo DS's website) Black and White, Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings, LOTS of big stuff.

Edit: I saw alot of stuff on the game list on gamefaqs.com and on nintedo DS's website(lost the url)

I don't agree, the DS may have lots of titles to stock the shelves, but PSP has many games from top-selling developers of our time. Since DS's arrival, DS's best sellers were, and are ports and remakes of N64 games. Mario 64 DS sold while PSP wasn't released, so they sold three times more off that single game, than Sony did for any game.

And ofcourse Nintendogs. Nintendogs is just like every other pet game in the history of time, they gain great hype for a little while, and after the hype wears off, they aren't seen forever. They obviously made three versions to sell more of what is essentially the same game, infact, they could have split the dogs from one version, then added them to the other two. I wouldn't be suprised if all three versions could fit on the same cartridge.

And even now, while DS has many more games than the PSP, Sony's games aren't far behind, and that's just because there aren't any huge titles on PSP being sold. It should turn out to be different when there is atleast one big label name released.

And there is no way that small list could slow down sales for PSP's upcoming list.

1. Grand Theft Auto- Liberty City Stories
2. Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII
3. Final Fantasy VII- Advent Children
4. Grand Turismo 4: Mobile
5. Breath of Fire III
6. Madden NFL 06
7. Tales of Eternia
8. Metal Gear Acid 2
9. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo
10. The Sims 2

As of now, Sony is a little short of DS's game sales when none of their current games have as much hype as the ones listed above.

DS is barely leading PSP's game sales, and they have a serious what- two new games that could actually match up with any of the titles on that list? Many PSP owners want to buy some game as of now, but there really is barely anything of interest at the moment. If Super Mario 64 DS wasn't released so early, along with the DS, Nintendo would be trailing behind PSP. Funny how most PSP basher's weren't afraid to accuse the PSP of going to have a bunch of ports from PS2, when aside from Nintendogs and WarioWare Touched, the best selling games for DS are all ports from n64.

This isn't a PSP thread debate Brit, it's about the price drop in DS. So shut your mouth. I knew the second you started posting here it'd be about PSP. So knock it off...

Same goes from anyone else, I can't count how many threads have been closed cause of stupid things like this...so don't make this thread another one....

And, uh, oh yeah...price drop in DS, w00t!

*so badly wants to say stuff to Brittany but refuses* (Just please stop calling Advent Children a PSP game, it's a movie and it's on DVD too not just UMD. And DVD first to boot according to the press sheet.)

Anyway...this deal isn't really *that* big of a deal. It's pretty much the same as the DS+Super Mario 64 bundle, except you get choose your game rather than making it Super Mario 64. Nintendo wants Nintendogs to sell over here, so it's basically like a Nintendogs bundle. Although...I'd rather there actually be a Nintendogs bundle, than a permanent price drop. @@

Just to add to Neko Keeshi's list of games:
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
Animal Crossing DS
Battles of Prince of Persia
Black & White Creatures
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Final Fantasy III
Katamari Damacy
Mario & Luigi 2
Mario Kart DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
New Super Mario Bros.
Sonic Rush
Tetris

With of all those games out by the holiday season, plus this price drop, it should result in more DS systems off the shelves.

really? thats interesting - because the only ones i can think of are mario and goldeneye. while on the other hand, almost every PSP game is a port from the PS2. but were nto talking about the PSP, so it doesn't matter.

I think it is a great move by Nintendo, and it will sell more DS units. FOr example, my sister has an overobsession with dogs, and she is going to get Nintendogs. But she will be barrowing my DS to play it. Soon we will both want to play the DS (me playing Splinter Cell :rambo: ) and with the dropped price she will most likely just buy her own. so there is just on example of a to-be success, and i'm sure there will be many others.

If you read my first post in this thread, it explained why I thought DS was having a pricedrop, because PSP is getting many advancements within the next few months, and soon they'll start selling titles from big names in the buisness.

Neko Keeshi said why he thought a price deduction along with new titles would stop the slump in sales when the titles he mentioned are released. First of all, those titles will not be released within the next month, so that's actually taken care of with no argument. And PSP titles will start getting released, meaning the PSP would have a slight advantage over DS in game sales over the next few weeks anyway. Either way, my opinion stands that DS is going on sale because PSP's updates and games will be coming at an interval nobody has yet towitnesses since the release of the system.

DS isn't getting it's update for a while, presumably when Nintendo Revolution is released, because that is the only sure way to upgrade it's firmware, so to increase sales while PSP get's it's technological advancements, thats another reason why they would subtract 20 to attract more customers. It makes perfect sense considering the latest America will have a PSP firmware update is probably next month, and that's a worst-case scenario, and GTA:Liberty City Stories was supposed to be out a month or two ago, along with S-E who's set the release date for FFVII-AC on September 14.

Just look at it this way:

PSP- GTA available next month, FF7 available next month too, new PSP color shortly after, PSPs already with the 2.0 firmware update(internet!)

OR

DS- No big names in DS games within the next month, aside from Advance Wars. Firmware version upgrade may not be here for another year and even so, we have no idea what will be on the update. I wouldn't assume internet first thing, but you're all free to speculate.

If you've noticed, PSP has been behind in sales, but not to the extent where they're hurting, because they're not that far behind DS's sales. If you've kept track of PSP's releases at all these two are PSP's first big releases, eversince the existance of the console. Pretend you're Nintendo... If you've never seen customers' reaction on PSP sales when they buy PSP games that they'd label popular, would cutting $20 of the price of a DS be too much insurance? Is $20 to keep them in the lead really hard to believe?

Nintendo doesn't lose as much money off each DS they sell as Sony does to their PSPs, which is why:
1. PSPs are currently only available in the Value Pack everywhere except for Japan. It doesn't cost Sony $70 for the soft case, cloth, headphones, remote, and memory card.
2. Sony can't make a price drop whenever new DS releases threaten their position, which is already behind.

Also, keep in mind that PSP's grid interface has been an icon representing PSP's capabilities eversince it's existance. PSP posters along with the internet icon will be an obvious difference to any PSP owner(or future PSP owners), not to mention the possibility of new PSP commercials representing it. It's not a small difference. Considering the fact that future PSP games(and GTA, expectedly) will require the update, it's not like only a select few will know about it, almost every PSP owner will. And while the internet option doesn't change the cost of the console directly, most owners see it as an increase in value, which is just another reason why a $20 price cut for DS is nothing for Nintendo.

And to Triforce, when did I label FFVII-Advent Children as a game? Never once did I do so. But FFVII-AC is a UMD which, thanks to FFVII's never-ending hype, is probably worth just as much to Sony as any game PSP will be dishing out in the near-future.

And sorry if my suggestion makes a heck of a lot more sense than Nintendo trying to increase Nintendogs' sales. I mean, I didn't just randomly force Sony to start making big releases and a firmware update. Those changes/additions were planned out months before Nintendo even mentioned their price cut. Infact, before releasing the real update, PSP's dummy update showed what looked to be an email client and word proccessor to go along with it, and those updates could be due at any time Sony needs to release them too, meaning the possibility of even more reasons for Nintendo to give the $20 cut.

Seriously, I just stated my opinion on the matter, and gave my reasoning to defend my stance. And as far as PC's rules go, it's not any of your job's to attack it, so if you don't want a debate, then simply- don't debate! Simple as that.

Instead of telling me to shut up, use some logic, or out of respect(if you have any), you could give me the slightest reason of why I may be wrong. I never once bashed Nintendo, nor their system, infact, I think it would be the wrong decision for Nintendo not to give the price cut.

This isn't up for negotiation Brit, I told you to stop...so you stop...

------------------------------------back to the thread------------------------------------

I knew the DS prices would drop, as have every nintendo system ever made has had its price dropped later on. The DS didn't do as good as I had hoped, mainly because it's opening game library was poor in my opinion. But at E3 I heard they showed many, many great games...this may, *gasp* almost make me wanna buy a DS...

What ho!

this thread mentions only the DS in its title, not the PSP. So I see no reason why the PSP needs to be brought into this. You can easily comment on the DS's price drop without mentioning the PSP.

Ofcourse!

If nobody here believes DS and PSP's sales don't effect each other...

Nevermind, I guess I am wrong. And Xbox has/will never effect GCN sales. Just as Revolution won't effect X360 or PS3's sales! It's common sense isn't it- there's never competition over companies and their products!

squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

*leaves thread*

Uh... *isn't even going to take the time to read Brit's posts*.

I think it's a good idea. I mean I know most everyone owns a DS by now. But for the ones that don't, they can get a DS and a game for just a tad more then the price of the DS when it first came out. It might or might not pick up on sells for the DS (I'm sure it will, the GC, PS2 and X-Box's price drop got them a good bit of sells), but it's still a good deal for the ones that don't own a DS.

Yeah Brittany stop bragging about the PSP and how "good" it is.

I think it's good that NDS is lowering it's prices it creater more oppertunites for kids who didn't have enough money.

Coolmaster.

I am waiting untill my brithda next year before i get the DS i am hoping that i will have enough then.XD

Whoops sorry for being off topic.XD

I've never bragged about 'how good the PSP is', or bashed the DS or Nintendo either.

Seriously. Learn how to read, use some common sense, and get over yourselves people.
Stop the flaming, Brittany. You realise you're on your final warning? @_@

22 PSP

7 DS

That is how many times you mentioned the PSP in your post.
Now thats what i call bragging.

How Dare you tell me to get over myslef why don't i just tell you to get over the PSP.XD

Happy Dude- just because you think Brittany's bragging doesn't give you the right to act worse. -_-

On topic-

Well, sooner or later, game consoles' prices drop, and I agree with that according to my own illogical reasons, although what Andy says is true. I'm not very informative on this, sadly, although Brittany's posts does explain much. 8D I feel like an idiot now.

Oh, by the way, that dancing trapinch:
