Producing Music through Electronic Means, I Presume

I'm currently 15, and I'm in school, having fun times with my friends and stuff. However, I love music, and I made a deal with myself that I would produce my first dubstep/ambient/techno/etc. piece by the time I am 16 (so, in 11 months), no matter how much money and work it takes.

So the request I'm petitioning today is, are there any tips you guys have to start producing electronic music and/or DJing? (I'm sure one of you on PC has like a full studio going iirc) I'll give you a run-down of what I do know:
    • There are pretty tools that you play (and store) samples on and you have other pretty tools that you alter the pretty sounds that come out of the pretty sample storage tools
    • Everything is recorded beforehand and played in a sequence to produce the desired song
    • Something about "phasing" and "EQ" and "Compression" (Please explain?)
    • You need a program like Logic Pro or FL Studio to sequence them into a release song
    • Synthesizers!
    • "It's hard work" (well duh, so bring it on!)
    • Mastering DJing is like playing an instrument, so expect lots of practice time
So what are some tips for the aspiring producer so he can be good? Anything would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tips! If this thread gets any responses I'll be so happy

Note to C&M Mod(s) and higher staff: Cat Dog 先生 said it was cool to ask PC about this, so I presume that none of y'all won't close the thread to "inappropriate subject" or something? And if you do just delete it completely plz? I'm not exactly sure if I'm allowed to do this.

I'm definitely no expert, and most of this is coming from the grapevine, but there are no right or wrong ways to make music. I've seen lots of people praising Ableton as one of the better electronic software, but if you are dedicated and creative, you could make it with just about any software that has distortion effects and stuff.

What I'd do first is research software and choose one that suits your needs. Ableton or FL Studio for creating your own tunes, or something like Virtual DJ is a good start for DJ mixing.

But again, it's limited by your imagination, and exactly what you want to do. But again, there's been plenty of raving about Ableton for dubstep and oscillating bass and stuff like that.

The internet and things like Youtube software reviews/tutorials is probably a better place to find answers than limiting it to PC. Also things like looking into the history of some of your favourite DJs or producers and see how they started out and what they are using now. If you Wikipedia'd an electronic producer, I'm sure you could find what software they started with, and what they're using now in a matter of minutes.
