Question about the attack "Fling" and using it with a Slaking

Which item would be best to have attached to Slaking to ensure that it would do the greatest amount of damage? Or this attack not even worth the trouble?

If you want to use Fling I suggest you give it to a Tyranitar holding an Iron Ball. Major pain!

Iron Ball does the most damage.

If you use fling, do you lose your item and can't use fling until the battle ends?
