The game has no story. It's all about the battle. You do not get starters, you get rentals, just like in Stadium.

Rental Pokemon are not reconmended, here's why...
One, The rental Pokemon are very weak, so getting served is guaranteed...
Two, You will not gain experience points to level up.

I never said they were a good thing. I would never use rentals, unless I was handicapping myself against a friend.

I guess they'd be alright to use if your looking for a pokemon you don't already have. :disappoin But it would be weak...

there is know starters in PBR inless you import your team or rent them.

...Well, technically your original Rental Pass could be considered "starters"...but other than that, no, there aren't any.
