I am planning to upgrade my Service Pack 1 on XP Professional, to Service Pack 3 on XP, if I do this will all of my files be deleted.

I need to do this since, my IE isn't compatible with Pokecommunity.com and every time I try to download a new internet browser, it needs SP2+.

If somebody could please answer this question!

    Just to add on...

Installing a service pack (a series of updates for Windows/etc) is basically getting all of the recommended (at least) updates through Microsoft/Windows Update.

Except, the purpose of the service pack is to make sure you have all of these updates (usually crucial).

It does delete/change/etc some Windows files. Meaning if SP3 combined two files into one for better operation, then it'd delete the obsolete Windows files and replace it with the new ones.

So kind of yes, in a way. But, as for your documents, pictures, movies, music, anything personal, no. Those will be safe.

Although, if you have a spare Flash Drive or something, then I would just back up your documents folder in case. It's more of a precaution than anything.

You really should upgrade, though. At LEAST to SP2. It covers a tonne of security issues and other parts of Windows that programs depend on.

If you're still running SP1 and IE6, then it makes me wonder if your Anti-virus, etc are remotely updated...
