Rain Dance... (just some doubts)

Just some doubts I had while playing my gameboy..

When a water pokemon uses rain dance, and uses eg. water gun attack, it's power is x2 (for rain dance) and another x2 (for STAB) right?

And fire pokemon, under the effect of rain dance, it's fire attacks are weakened down to half its usual damage. This is because it is weak against water. But what if it were a ground type? would it still work the same? for example, dugtrio in a battle where rain is summoned.. will dugtrio's ground attacks (eg. earthquake) be weakened by half its usual damage? just because ground is also weak against water?

can anyone please answer me? thanks in advance ^^

No. Rain Dance doubles the damage from all water attacks, no matter what pokemon uses them. Also, STAB is only 50%, not x2. Fire attacks in Rain Dance do only half of their normal damage. ONLY fire attacks get weakened by rain. Although ground is weak to water, the damage of ground moves in rain remains the same.
Secondary effects are that Solarbeam takes no turn to load in Sun and two turns to load in Rain and that Thunder has 100% accuracy in Rain and only 35% (I think) in the Sun.

I see.. but why is thunder's accurary reduced to 35% and not remain the same in the sun?

would you expect to see lightning strike on a sunny day or a rainy one?, most of the weather conditions have to do with common sense. :\

well, rain dance gurantees thunder, so why not on a rainy day??
I'm not saying u see lightning on a sunny day, but I think a sunny day doesn't lower thunder's accuracy. I don't think there's any relations to sunny day and thunder's accuracy..

you said common sense, but it doesn't make any sense at all to say that sunny day lowers accuracy, if that was what you meant.

Woops, I was wrong, I checked, it's 50% in the sun. How would we know why? Ask Nintendo.

I usually use Rain Dance on Pokemon with Swift Swim like Kingdra. Kingdra's Speed without Speed EVs in the rain is 412, which is enough to outspeed mostly everything.

People are so misinformed. Rain Dance increases Water attacks by 1.5x, not 2x.

I finally found that out and you had to beat me to it? :P

Well, since it is a 1.5 power boost, moves like Surf are over doubled with Rain Dance and STAB.

    Its not really over doubled

Just multiplied by two and 1/4...

no it is multiplied by 1.5 squared (1.5*1.5)

multiplying 1/4 is dividing four. I am sure stab does not give minus bonuses.;)

Also didn't you hear aragonbird, it is 1.5 power not 2...

95*1.5*1.5=213.75 power! Wow that is POWERFUL!

hydro pump would be 120*1.5*1.5=270 powerful!

and by the way, that is more than double ;)

I always use rain dance with electric attacks mostly thunder, i use sunny days for solarbeamers and pokemons that use fire move, then sandstorm for no apparent reason

Sandstorm is handy for TSS teams, although it's just easier to lead with Tyranitar for Sand Stream.

    1.5 x 1.5 = 2.25, BTW, so enyce was right Demonta.

Rain Dance is a 1.5x boost for Water moves. This is why Kyogre's Water Spout is said to be double-STABed. It doesn't actually get 2x STAB boost, it gets the 1.5x STAB boost and the 1.5x Rain Dance boost, as Kyogre's ability summons rain.

    wow.. all the math.. :P
so if Kyogre uses Water Spout, it'll be like: 150 damage x1.5 x1.5? hehex.. strong. XD

    ~*^*~~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~~*^*~

Not that Kyogre should use Water Spout, since Water Spout sucks as it decreases in damage once you get hit. And it only has 5 PP.

yup.. I know it's not all that good.. but I'd love to save Kyogre for last and just surprise opponents with a water spout.. hehex. :P
