Request: Block my access to the "Other Trivia" section

    If plausible, can a mod/admin please block my Read access to the "Other Trivia" area? I find it rather purposeless (I'm just speaking for myself. I know that a lot of people love that area though.) here honestly. I tried it out and realized it's not an area that I ever plan to use or get any use out of. I also realize now that the "New Posts" are cumbersome to look through, because I have to sift through a lot of "Other Trivia" posts.

    If this is a Feature I missed, I apologize. I skimmed through the FAQ and didn't find anything about this though. I know it's possible to remove a person's Read access by modifying user rights in the Permissions area of the ACP, so I figured I would ask. I know I may be going outside of my member bounds by asking of this request though; I apologize if that is the case. I would just really love to not have to see that area and the posts from it at anymore..

    Sorry for the trouble, and thank you for your time reading.

    Wow, dude, don't you think you're being a tad bit picky? I mean, if you don't plan on posting there, then simply ignore it. I rarely post outside of OT, OVP, and OCD, but am perfectly okay with the rest of the forum being visible to me. You're asking for something that would require an immense amount of work from the admins (I do think what you're asking for is possible, though I can't be sure). Doing that for you would set a precedent that I don't think the admins are willing to create.

    He means that when you click "new posts", it shows you every new post including Other Trivia which can be annoying if you have no interest in Other Trivia but would like to see the new posts of every other section in one place. It's an understandable wish, no need to criticize it so harshly just because you don't want it for yourself.

    I'm not sure if it's possible though. The "New Posts" feature is basically a glorified search, so maybe there's a particular way you can search that would avoid it while still showing you the new posts?

    To remove your access to that forum an entirely new usergroup with altered permissions would have to be created for you that doesn't let you see that forum. The same thing would have to be done if you don't want to see the new posts of that section.

    I just ignore it - there's only about ten or so threads hanging around OT at any one time, so sifting through those posts isn't that hard, at least for me. In fact I personally sift through maybe 60% of threads when I go through New Search. A better idea for you would probably be using individual forum subscriptions and/or just looking around for threads.

    Yeah I was wondering if it was possible so I figured I would double check here.

    Ahh, that's an interesting point, I'll have to look into it and see. You are most likely correct though, thanks for the input on that. I forgot that it would have to be a Group Permission. Although..I have to double check now just for my own knowledge.

    I noticed A LOT of neat features on this forum so I figured I would ask about this, it never hurts right? Thanks for the feedback everyone. Feel free to lock this Toujours, I won't bother anyone about this anymore. ^^;

    We have a plugin installed that removes access from forums on a case-by-case basis. When I was on staff, there was a two month point where I didn't want access to the hangout and they removed my access there without changing my usergroup.

    Ah nice, so it is possible! Thank you for the heads up. I hope someone can help me with that. ^^

    As you stated in the first post it's pretty simple to change the permissions for a single person (no need for a new usergroup). It's just the fact that I'm sure other people will request the same thing. And they might go... "I don't want Emulation, 4th Gen Games, Other Chat, Computers & Tech, Game Dev, Roleplay, Pokemon TCG, Pokemon Anime, or Japanese Entertainment".
    We all have forums we never go to, and some people will request them forums be blocked. And then there's the chance of "Oh a friend of mine linked to a thread in ... forum, can you unblock it for me so I can view the thread? ^^;".

    If you were the only person to request it then I wouldn't mind changing the permissions. But to be fair to everyone if I changed it for you I'd (or the other Admins) have to do the same for anyone else who requests it. We just don't have the time to take care of a ton of small requests (might start off "slow", but it builds up over time).

    Unless the very existence of a link is enough to seduce you into viewing the forum I think you can probably just use your own self control to hold back from visiting the forum in question.

    Arcanine - Thank you for the response. I completely understand the situation. It definitely could be prove cumbersome and a create a time sink if a lot of people asked for this. ^^; (Still, I'm surprised, the request was more common than I thought.) Better off letting our mods/admins do what they do best instead. :D
