This thread is only for the first Resident Evil game.
Forget Silent Hill. Forget Project Zero. Forget Alone in the Dark. Resident Evil is the best horror game ever made. I played Resident Evil 2 back in 2000 and I fell in love with the series. And a week before my 15th birthday, I bought the first Resident Evil game on my beloved Playstation console, which I sold after I bought a PS2. I'm aware that these games are so addictive they almost take over your mind.
For years Resident Evil had been stale. It was always stuck in the year 1998 and never seemed to move. Then because of the prequel, I guess they had to re-make this classic. And re-make it they did. Everything about this game is a hit. It is the closest thing to a horror movie that you'll ever come across. But it is still trapped in 1998. That aside, this game definitely delivers on superior graphics. Every room, character, monster and cutscene is rich in detail. The dialogue is also less embarrassing this time, and the music makes you panic.
I salute Capcom for the inclusion of the defence items. These come in the form of grenades, stun batteries and daggers. When a zombie grabs you, you won't be bitten as long as you use the defence item straight away.
The story: A group of highly trained police officers are sent in to investigate gruesome deaths in a forest near a small American town called Raccoon City. The S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team do not report back, so their sister team, S.T.A.R.S. Alpha, are sent in to investigate. Following the events of Resident Evil Zero, Chris Redfield and company find the destroyed helicopter of their missing comrades. Then they are attacked by a group of zombiefied dogs. Since their pilot Brad has lived up to his reputation as being a wuss, they have no choice but to run inside the famous mansion. I call it famous because this game is loved by so many gamers. Once inside the team gets separated and encounters zombies and other nasties which are all the result of an outbreak of an evil virus. This game was really inspired by the film Dawn of the Dead.
And in my opinion, there has never been a Resident Evil game quite like this one. The sequels and side stories to me were all about suspense, which is why I salute Capcom for finally releasing Resident Evil 4, which signals a welcome return to the legendary series.
