[PokeCommunity.com] Return of N64 Rare And Spiritual Successor of Banjo Kazooie! Introducing "Yooka-Laylee"!

    Yooka-Laylee

A small team of ex-Rare employees decide that they loved the environment of making games such as Banjo Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and other Rare hits and now they are making a movement to bring those days back! They form a small group to make this happen and call themselves Playtonics Obviously, since Microsoft has claim of the characters in Banjo Kazooie, these ex-Rare employees cannot just make another Banjo Kazooie game. So, they decided that THIS game will be its spiritual successor. Yooka-Laylee, created under the instrument Ukelele. Yooka is the chameleon and Laylee is the bat.

They have done an absolutely INCREDIBLE job of bringing the old n64 rare back to its full potential. When I saw the gameplay of this game and listened to the background theme of the first world, I felt a sense of nostalgia from the old Banjo series. It is VERY well made. I feel as if there is no way that we will be disappointed by this game. It will be just like any other old n64 rare game.

Their team is comprised of the same people that made Banjo Kazooie back in the day. Chris Sutherland, a 30 year old Rare veteran who is the project director and software engineer. He did the voice of Banjo, Kazooie, and more, and as a software engineer is responsible for some of the mechanics in gameplay. Gavin Price, the managing director and creative lead, he moved up the design ranks working on Banjo Kazooie during Rare's N64 era. Great guy, watched an interview. Very humble. Steve "Not Steven" Mayles, considered the "father of character design". He created Banjo, Kazooie, the kong family, and many more excitingly popular characters. All of the sub characters in those games were also created by this guy. Very creative, its a talent really. Jens Restemeier, "the technical mastermind behind Playtonics", a technical director and software engineer, he is responsible for making this game available on so many different platforms and ports. Steven Hurst, the enviroment art director, created the backgrounds of Donkey Kong Country, worlds of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, and created scenery from Ghoulies and vina pinata. Mark Stevenson, the technical art director, is the mastermind behind most of the art in Rare back in its time. And finally, the only non-ex-Rare employee, Andy Robinson, who was recruited to help write and record all of the happenings of playtonics on their website in an appropriate fashion.

Also, very special to mention that three VERY well known and talented composers will be creating the music in this game! This will truly make the music feel like old Rare! First composer, Grant Kirkhope, has joined the team in their project to bring back the old Rare! He was the legendary composer of the Banjo Kazooie series, as well as other popular titles like vina pinata and goldeneye 007. David Wise, known for his composing talent in Donkey Kong Country and Diddy Kong Racing, will also be in the team. Last, but CERTAINLY not least, Steve Burke, the man behind all of the sound effects in the old Banjo Kazooie and many other games. He also composed in Kameo: Elements of Power.

Check out a sample of what Grant Kirkhope has made of the music in the first world!

And check out work from David Wise!

These soundtracks are extremely promising. You can relate how their music is to their old works. Its extremely similar.

Looking at the members of the cast in Project Yooka-Laylee, this game is looking as everyone has always wanted. Here is a little bit of gameplay footage of the game itself. This was made in LESS THAN THREE MONTHS by these guys. Very impressive, especially for a beta version!

So when are we getting this? It is projected to be on Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One by October 2016. But it can be sooner and developed even better if WE help!

They have a kickstarter for fans to back them and donate money to making this game. They were stunned by how much money they received during only the first few minutes of its kickstarter. In just an hour they recieved over a million US dollars. Right now they currently have approxiamently $2,800,522 for the project in a month. This game has broken the world record of the UK's most funded for game on kickstarter. It also has broken many other different records. Another stretch goal is that if they reach 3 million dollars (which we are closely approaching), then DLC or any additional content will be free to ALL backers of the game!

There are also many rewards for backing this game or donating money depending on how much you've donated. One of those rewards consists of something very remarkable. Did you think the same thing as me when I said that it will be on the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One? Well, don't worry. They are also making their own retro version of the game and console!

The N64 64 bit version of Yooka-Laylee will be offered with this game's release aswell!

PLEASE support this campaign guys. It's really awesome content and I'm sure leaving a bit of money for them will do wonders before their deadline.

Here are all the stretch goals that the fans have met and are pushing to meet: (NOTE: All of the amounts are displayed in euros, not US dollars)

It's also important to mention, every reward you get will include all previous rewards. So for instance, if you donate enough for the 64 bit version, all of the rewards preceding that you will also get.

To donate for the project, learn about their campaign, look for updates, comment or ask them questions, and much more, visit https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival/description for these details.

It has been very interesting to read their articles and their progress in developing the game. Here are some interesting interviews about the game that can help you learn both about the game and the developers.

Now that I've kind of got the newcomers' feet in the water for this game, let me tell you all the point of why I made this thread. I made this thread not only to spread awareness, but also for all of us to share our ideas of the game.

What do you think of the game? Promising or disappointing?
What kind of things would you like to see in this game?
What cool ideas for DLC would you suggest?
What kinds of sub chracters would you like to see?
What do you think about the newly projected "Jinjos"? (Look in the update section of the kickstarter for more details.)
What questions do you have for the developers about the game?
What kind of games would you like to see in the local split screen multiplayer part of this game?
Which version are you planning to get? The N64 version, Wii U, PS4, or Xbox One?

These are just suggestions for what can be discussed. For me, personally my question has been whether or not the 64 bit edition for this game only limited to until the Kickstarter ends. I don't necessarily have the means to purchase it now with the situation I'm in with my family. I hope I can purchase it later because right now it wouldn't be possible.

I'm so excited and hype for this game! Let me know how you guys feel about it! WOOOO the return of Rare!
