If anyone wants to make a thread like this for Sony and/or Microsoft go right ahead.

The below information are taken from various sources which I'll list at the end. The majority of this information are just rumours and speculations. So don't take anything to heart.

    Satoru Iwata said:
I could give you our technical specs, as I'd know you'd like that, but I won't for a simple reason: they really don't matter. The time when horsepower alone made all the difference is over.
Eh?let?s not let that stop us from speculation shall we?

There are supposedly two sets of specs for the Revolution. According to N-Sider.com, Nintendo has yet to decide on which specs it?s going to use. Keep in mind that article I?m using was from a time when forum goers were still calling the Revolution ?GameCube Next?:

    System 1
    - 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 Processor
    - 512 Megs total Ram (128 for video, 64 for sound)
    - 600 MHz graphics chip
    - Built in 15 Gigabyte hard drive
    - Blue-laser disk technology
    - Potential DVD playback
    - Case design philosophy more like the N64, less like the GameCube

    System 2
    - Dual 1.8 GHz IBM G5 PowerPC processors
    - 256 Megs DDR Main memory (64 dedicated to sound, using a 7.1 sound system at 196 KHz)
    - 128 Megs GDDR3 Video memory
    - 500 MHz graphics chip (ATI developed, 16 Pixel Pipe, 220 Million transistors)
    - Built in 15 Gigabyte hard drive
    - Blue-laser disk technology
    - Potential DVD playback
    - Case design philosophy more like the N64, less like the GameCube

The next bit of information is a bit more recent but probably holds no weight at all. It?s from a forum goer at some other forum and he isn?t revealing his sources. Therefore, for all we know he could?ve made it all up:
    - Will utilize gyros in there controllers
    - Dual processors
    - Built in broadband
    - An online strategy in the works, which will be implemented on the DS first
    - No plans to connect the DS to the Revolution, the Game Boy Evolution is more likely to connect
    - Four controller ports
    - Hard drive
    - Dolby Digital 5.1 and high definition monitor support
    - No virtual reality or headset planned
    - Backwards compatible with GCN
    - HD-DVD format not Blu-Ray
    - Like GCN it is not released with wireless controllers, but they are planned
    - Launch with a Mario title and a Super Smash Bros. title that is midway through it?s development
    - Zelda in development

Hmm?because he mentioned dual processors I think that means were likely dealing something along the lines of System 2.

    In closing?
Preliminary development on the console started before the GCN was released in Japan. There is a heavy development towards new Nintendo franchises and as much money as needed will be taken out of Nintendo?s $6 billion dollar reserves to make this console the ?greatest gaming machine ever? according to Iwata. It will not just feature better technology as previous console have done with the jump from each previous generation, but feature technology that will supposedly revolutionize gaming. The technology will be greater than the GCN and is speculated to be on equal ground with Sony and Microsoft?s next-gen system in addition to whatever revolutionary technology it will feature.

Again, do to the second account mentioning dual processors, I?m going with the System 2 model of dual 1.8 GHz IBM G5 PowerPC processors, 256 Megs DDR Main memory (64 dedicated to sound, using a 7.1 sound system at 196 KHz), 128 Megs GDDR3 Video memory, 500 MHz graphics chip (ATI developed, 16 Pixel Pipe, 220 Million transistors), built in 15 Gigabyte hard drive, blue-laser disk technology, potential DVD playback, and a case design philosophy more like the N64, less like the GameCube. The last four features mentioned are shared on both System 1 and System 2 proposals, so that gives those theories a little more weight. In addition, the other rumoured specs I listed from that forum, but I?m lazy to type them again. Yes, I know how to copy and paste.

Despite the report above Nintendo says they do not want this to be an extension of the GCN, so backwards compatibility seems unlikely. Nevertheless, we can hope for the best. The way the controller works may be changed. Nintendo invested an undisclosed amount of money in Gyration Inc. and Gyration motion-sensor technology is rumoured to be used in the controller. This means that it has superior quality of tracking performance over tilt sensors, ease accuracy of moving a cursor or crosshair across a screen by pointing, Yaw axis tracking that allows users to naturally point and move objects left and right. In other words technology that tracks human motion and translates it into linear movement of computer graphic images. A wireless controller is expected but is rumoured to not be available at lunch, but rather traditional wire controllers. Personally, I think that?s unlikely, but what the hey. The controller will not feature two screens like the DS and DS support is not expected, but GBE support is rumoured. Rubbing the controller is rumoured to be possible, and the entire controller is supposedly pressure sensitive.

It will hook up to both television screens and computer monitors. Technology being used recently on the GCN is expected to carry on, for example camera and voice technology. If online technology isn?t used an alternative, way of connecting people from across the world will be used because Nintendo sees current online gaming as a flawed technique. It is to be release later either 2005 or 2006, and the price is expected to be equal to competetors or value prices like the GCN, but not above.

Game in development (or rumoured to be) include a Mario title (probably what we?ve come to know as Super Mario 128), Avalon (by Climax), a Madden title, a Mario Kart title (I read it in the Toronto Star once), a Metroid title, a Pilotwings title (possibly by Factor5), a Camelot RPG (possibly Golden Sun), a Super Smash Bros. title (which is hoped for and is listed in one of the rumour articles above), a Zelda title (same reasoning as the Smash description) , and an unknown title by Zoonami.

1st party support includes: R&D1, R&D2, EAD (yay!), EAD Tokyo (a new studio focussing on relatively innovative games like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat), Nintendo Software Technology Corporation, Nintendo Software Planning Division, Nintendo Licensing Division (not really making games?they give out the licenses to other people), Intelligent Systems, HAL Laboratory, Retro Studios, Genius Sonority, Camelot Software Planning, and Brownie Brown.
Third party support is likely to include Bandai, Capcom, Electronic Arts (they are onboard), Konami, Kuju Entertainment Ltd., Majesco, n-Space Inc, Namco, Sega Sammy, Square Enix, and Treasure. Nintendo has also been trying to get more support recently and will most likely continue to try for the rest of this generation. It is possible that Revolution will either alienate parties, or attract them.

The medium is rumoured to be a 2-sided 8cm disc, 5.4GB capacity, in a shell case.

The alternative to online play being rumoured is something called Nintendo Home. A base like station that will be placed in multiple places around the globe to allow communication between systems. That seems really weird, but meh.

When the system was still referred to as N5, Doug Lombardi of Valve hinted at the possibility of Half-Life 2 being ported to the Revolution.

What I want that isn?t above or rumoured:
    - Built in Game Boy Player like capabilities
    - It better be wireless controllers right off the bat (hopefully they have a rumble feature too)
    - Backwards compatible with GCN games because my GCN is starting to die out. Lol

AND REMEMBER, ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THIS WAS RUMOUR

Sounds like a lot of things we could be dreaming of. :P The 1st speculation isn't as good as the 2nd one since the 2nd one has more stuff. But...we'll just have to wait and see for more information on this. ;)

The next system has to be online since everybody now is getting online, it's getting so popular. Also I hope that the Revolution can play the GCN games.

Well I just wish Nintendo would make a system that would blow away Sony and Microsoft's systems and leave them in the dust. XD

Anyway lots of things I would like to see on the Revolution. Like online play (hopefully free XD), a DVD player, Backwards compatible with the GC would be great. But I'm not to fond with the idea of a hard drive to save games (even if it is a 15 gig XD). I like to use memory cards to have more then one game file and so on (I got 3 MCs, some of them I got same game but a file for me and another file for my brother).
But I just hope it isn't turned into a computer (to me the X-Box is more of a computer then a game system, when I got my GC and PS2 I paid for a game system not a computer).

The Revolution might have some good things in store for us. But time will tell on what is really in that box on Nintendo's next game system.

I would prefer the Revolution not to have a DVD player, afterall I've got a DVD player, PS2 and PC to play DVD's. I'd rather the price be kept lower and without a DVD player. I actually like the idea of a Hard Drive, as long as memory cards are optional extras, because I hate having to buy a new memory card or having to erase older game files when I get a new game.
Backwards compatible was probably one of the first things decided by Nintendo and it just has to happen because there are just too many great GC games to not play them again.

Some Revolution details will be exposed in the GDC in San Francisco...

A wireless controller is expected but is rumoured to not be available at lunch

^I take it that you mean launch? =P

Anyways, I hope that most of these rumors end up being true, though I wonder why the DS is rumored not to have connectivity with the Revoultion. =/ Unless someone can tell me whether there is confirmation that this "Game Boy Evolution" is actually in development. xD

Well before the DS was even released, Nintendo said that the next addition to the GameBoy series was already in development and that it would be able to connect with the Revolution.

    Yeah, agreed. x_X I wouldn't like a hard drive. I like memory cards because you can bring them anywhere. Like, over the summer I went to stay with my friend for a week and she lives pretty far (different province~) so I brought my PS2 memory card with me so I could play and save games over at her house. =o It'd suck to lug a console around the country or to not be able to play my own files at all. x_X;;

    Anyway, I've got almost no idea what most of the things in this thread mean, but it sounds good. :D I've no idea what you mean about the new controller technology, though, so remind me to bug you for an explanation at school. XD;;

You can still have a hard drive and use a memory card because I have a memory card for my X-Box, I love the hard drive idea.

Oh yeah! I remember hearing about that now. XD But I also remember wondering why they would create another handheld when they just made a uber awsome one. =P

I'm in favour of a hard drive and memory card combo, but I think that the hard drive is a must. I have five memory cards for my GCN, four of which are full, and it drives me insane trying to remember what games are on which. I've tried organizing in alphabetical order but to optimize the most space I've had to mix it up a little bit. @@

Saving to hard drive would feel like the good old days. Don't have to worry about a memory card just play and save, just like the cartridge days.

Memory card should stay when you want to bring your file to someone's house. Hopefully a hard drive to memory card transfer and viceversa feature would be included.

Yeah your right also what's good about the hard drive is that it cant erase you data for some strange reason like some memory cards do.

    Nintendo.com said:
Iwata announced that Revolution will feature built-in Wi-Fi protocols, which will allow users around the world to connect with one another wirelessly. Revolution?s technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," are being designed to deliver game experiences not possible to date.

"We?re excited to be developing the graphics chip set for Revolution, which continues our longstanding relationship with Nintendo," says Dave Orton, ATI Technologies Inc.?s president and chief executive officer. "As the leading graphics provider, ATI is committed to delivering exceptional visual performance that enables consumers to interact with new and visually compelling digital worlds. ATI is proud to support Nintendo?s innovative contributions to gaming."
And IT WILL BE backwards compatible.

I'm on a Palm right now. The entire thread didn't even load. So if the following has been said then I apologize, I can't see all the posts. Anyway, I think we can toss out the no A & B button rumours. It will be GCN compatible so I think the buttons have to stay.

I did a really bad job at explaning the gyration stuff to Erica. TT ...

Well, would it be possible for them to make GCN controllers compatible with the Revolution? If so, then the rumor may still be true.

Besides, didn't Iwata confirm that the rumor was true a while ago? I'm pretty sure I heard that it was confirmed somewhere. Then again, I could be wrong..

I hope The Revolution doesn't have the DVD player because that would most likely increase the price plus I dont need any more DVD players. XD
