    In HG/SS, sometimes your lead walking Pokémon will find an item in an area known as a "Shiny Leaf". Depending on a Pokémon's nature, the Pokémon will find Shiny Leaves in different locations. Once you obtain five Shiny Leaves, you can take them to Lyra/Ethan and she'll/he'll turn them into a Leaf Crown for you, and you get a star on your trainer card out of it. They don't really do anything special in game, though. They're only there merely for decoration.

    Were you able to collect Shiny Leaves in HG/SS? I actually did go through the effort to try, and I got a Leaf Crown out of it. Only once, though. I never bothered to do it again.
     
    That sounds interesting, but I don't think I ever bothered/payed much attention to those small details, particularly something as rare as these random leaves. I didn't even talk that much to my Pokémon when I played HG/SS for subsequent times.
     
    i didn't make any effort for it, but i did have a gengar find one iirc. it's a cute feature, even if i didn't actively seek to have all my pokemon find one.

    Yes! I remember and loved that! It was a subtle but really nice addition. HGSS is all about friendship with pokemon following you, pokemon giving you accessories, posing for pictures with you and dressing up, and the shiny leaves were apart of that. My Suicuine North Wind found lots of leaves. Since Suicuine is my favorite Johto mon and plays such an important role in both Crystal and HGSS it felt really good that she was the first pokemon to help me make a crown. Suicuine was special, my comrade.
