Should the series have fusions?

Kind of already did limited fusions between Kyurem, Necrozma, Galar fossils, Bill (Kanto), and Lusamine (Alola). Assumes you mean between any two Pokemon, though.

Pulled it off fairly well in fangame Infinite Fusion. Feels pessimistic on the Pokemon Company doing a good job. Deals with concerns that fangame did not, however. Examples:

1. Balance. How do you balance that many Pokemon without making the base form bland in terms of ability, moves, and maybe aesthetic design?

2. Art. Needs to make all the Pokemon fusions look halfway decent. Feels like a monumental challenge to produce all the possible fusions for a small, 100 Pokemon generation. Used a generic method in Infinite Fusion for anything without a custom sprite. Created some strange-looking Pokemon. Doubts the Pokemon Company would allow that. Only grows worse if in 3D. Almost certainly sacrifices any kind of Pokemon movement.

Apart from a handful of closely-related species like the Kyurem, Necrozma, and Calyrex forms, not really. I'd like to see it as a gimmick for a couple new non-legendaries for once, and maybe a Reshiram/Zekrom fusion form if we go back to Unova, but applying it to anything more than that would either lead to favoritism to specific Pokemon like Mega Evolution does, or be a nightmarish amount of work that would be better spent on other things.

Yes, I enjoy this mechanic in Yo-kai Watch and SMT/Persona. I don't think every Pokémon need to be able to fuse with every other Pokémon. I think there should be just few set of specificly designed Pokémon fusions. Like we already have with gen V legendaries.

I also like the idea of Pokémon fusing with items, but we already have this with tradeing with items, for example Scyther fusigg with Metal Coat and becoming Scizor.

Aside from the ones that already exist... fusions for a new generations starter could be cool. Like, have the starter final evos be fuse-able with a limited amount of Pokemon. Could fuse it with something cute to make it cuter or something tough looking to make it more intimidating.
Aside from that I'm not really all that interested. There will probably be some more legendary Pokemon with fusions in the future.

Apart from the "original dragon" being introduced as a fusion of Reshiram/Zekrom in a hypothetical Gen 5 remake, I can't say I'm particularly interested. I don't have much confidence in GF managing to properly balance then (imagine how broken, say, a Mega Rayquaza and Arceus fusion would be) and the amount of effort needed to develop thousands of halfway-decent 3D models for it would completely take over development and drag down the rest of the game.
