I have yet to play Black and White, since it's not getting a release until next month. I want to ask how the Battle Subway is in this game, since it's essentially the equivalent to the Battle Frontier.
I'm kind of hoping that this is better by comparison, really. The battle frontier in HGSS/DPPt was, in my opinion, a rigged piece of ****.
One of the major things that annoy me about it was that the computer was a cheating bastard. You fought teams that were specifically meant to counter yours, and they don't just counter you in their movesets, they counter you with their held items (brightpowder and elemental resisting berries, for example) and even their IVs. Even if you EV train, it's still a pain in the ass when you are at this kind of disadvantage against your opponent. You have to get far into the frontier in order to encounter such opponents to begin with, and with the fact that you have to COMPLETELY START OVER if you lose and it seems like the AI WANTS YOU TO LOSE, it becomes really, REALLY frustrating.
The lack of clauses also made the Battle Frontier no fun. A single, fast pokemon can put your entire team to sleep, and if you try to just stay in one spot, hoping for your pokemon to wake up, you are still wasting turns and allowing them to build up their stats with double team or whatever.
But worse than that, the lack of a self-KO clause really makes **** unfair. If you are caught between a 1v1 with your opponent, and the opponent uses Parish Song, unless you can KO that pokemon you are pretty much screwed, because even if the match lands a tie, you will ALWAYS lose, even if your opponent initiated the self-KO.
So yeah, I'm kind of hoping the Battle Subway is a step up from this. The creators even admitted to cheating with the previous frontier, so I'm kind of hoping they actually learned something.
What are your thoughts? Has anyone tried the battle subway?
