Social Music

Basically just asking about how you feel about music in social situations, your experiences, and all that jazz.

And now the obligatory bullet point questions:

Do you put on what you like or what you think other people like? Is it important to you that you can share music with friends and people in general? Have you had arguments about music? Is general is music something personal or social for you? (Or is it something in between, or something else entirely not on this arbitrary line which I call the Personal-Social Spectrum?)

Me, I've always been a music recluse who likes to listen to music in private. I'm okay with other people being around, but I want to listen to what I feel like listening and it bugs me if the music that's playing wherever I am clashes with my mood. But I know I have to keep from alienating people so I have some playlists of music that I like which I've found are okay for other people, too. A nice little compromise.

My music experiences can be roughly divided into three groups: stuff listened to on the radio in the car; stuff listened to in bars/clubs with friends; stuff listened to by myself (i.e. everything else). Stuff listened to on the radio and in bars/clubs is mostly comprised of music that I find inoffensive enough to listen to but rarely contains anything that I really like. Most of my favourite music I've discovered relatively independently. Still, when it comes to going to a bar/club and being compelled to dance by friends... I do it, but it's not something done willingly. Mainly because of the music. But whatevs!

It's both at the same time. Definitely more personal though, just a common fact about me that I listen to a lot of music and enjoy listening to a lot of it.

I enjoy exploring all genres by myself, listening to experimental music and the latest upcoming bands.

I also enjoy listening to pop and dance music with friends either at home or in clubs etc. All music serves a purpose; you can either sit down and enjoy a serious Miles Davis album, dance to Lady Gaga or laugh at The Lonely Island.

I spent all day listening to Queen and this https://vimeo.com/24524593 because they're both enjoyable in their own way.

When I'm with my sister, I liked to annoy her by blaring songs I didn't think she'd like lol. However, when I was with someone I was trying to impress, I tried not to pick songs that they'd find weird or something, especially since they weren't as in to music as me. So I didn't wanna give them like...shock haha. I ended up having them listen to some weird stuff and they even said "Wow you like weird music" but they still listened with meeee so I guess it didn't really matter. n___n But for the most part, I wanna listen to music alone. I like listening to music with Klippy though. We like a lot of the same stuff, haha.

I like what I like and I tend to share and recieve songs with some of my friends which has been pretty useful for finding new bands in the past.

I doubt you could find many people I know who know the extent of my music taste though so I don't go shouting it to the world.
