Softmodem dropout problems

I have a problem with my new computer. The modem keeps dropping out after a few minutes online. The chipset is a Motorola SM56. I tried every init string on https://www.modemhelp.org/inits/motorola.html but none of them work. I can't even stay online long enough to download the latest driver. Any ideas? *sigh*

If your running XP, uninstall the drivers and run off the standard XP drivers until you can get the correct set again.

There could also be a problem with your isp, but not 100% sure on that one.

If your problem continues, newegg.com has very well priced softmodems. If your softmodem's speed isn't up to par, say 45Kish, you might consider investing in a hardware or better quality softmodem.
