Summer Sales News Center!

Same thing here, the servers are overloaded D:!

THere is a funny mini game they have posted which I want to try ASAP ;___;

I find it amusing that you and I can't even get into it -- I did earlier but now I can't get it to load again -- but yet the community has already played it enough to reach two milestones for tomorrow's "special sales."

...I stand corrected. The page just got wiped and the tags for the games are all different now, but Crysis 2 and Outcast are not on a "special sale" elsewhere yet.

Steam. Steam, what did you do.

It's madness. I hope I don't lose sales because of this -.-

I'm really surprised someone was not only able to login, but also able to purchase stuff and play the mini-game lol

Capitalism, please take my soul ;___; don't leave me alone in this darkness

^ I hope no one else purchased things in the mini-game; everything I bought got wiped, but I didn't get my gold back, lol.

I was level 10 and I had like 11 points into a turret upgrade and 7 points into my armor, and now I'm still level 10, but with only 15 gold left and 1 point in light armor and 1 point in armor-piercing ammo or something. I can't even open it long enough to stay alive.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, all of the franchise pages are up, too.

As I do every major Steam Sale, here, again, are my tips on getting the most out of the sale.

Now before you go off to buy all those games you never got to, here are some things that you should consider:

  • Keep a careful watch of the Flash Sale and the Monster Sale. The Flash Sales last 12 hours and show deals for 15 games. Then, of course, there are the Daily Sales, which last for 48 hours.
  • Don't jump to buy a game that is part of the sale simply because it's on Sale. The Flash Sale and the Monster Deals may yield a better discount than a standard Steam Sale discount. Patience can be your greatest tool when looking for the best deal. Watch for Daily Deals, of course, but Flash Deals and Monster Deals (possibly) should take precedence, as they often yield the best discounts the sale has to offer.

  • While the Steam Sale is nice, it may also be smart to look to other sites for better deals. GreenmanGaming, Gamers Gate, Nuuvem, G2A, and Getgames are just a few examples that always have incredible deals, so don't limit yourself. In fact, these sites often have competitive discounts specifically because Steam is having their annual sale, so they are certainly worth checking out. Having said that, keep the previous tip in mind.

  • Put games on your wishlist. If there's a game you really want and you don't want to have to keep looking at the Steam Sale for a better deal, put the game on your wishlist so that you will get e-mails about deals for games on your wishlist. If you want a more immediate and versatile means of getting deals, isthereanydeal.com allows you to import your Steam Wishlist (or just search for games) and have deals from a plethora of trusted sites and Steam emailed to you. What's more, you can check the deal price against the lowest the price for that specific game has ever gone, letting you know if you're getting a good deal. The site is highly recommended.

As this is the first day, how things will pan out is unclear, but for now this is still a valid guideline if you really want to save money this Summer Sale, and remember, if you see a tantalizing standard deal:

Slightly edited to fit the current sale.

There are 12-hour flash sales in this one?

I'm only seeing 24-hour sales (Styx, Outlast, and Darksiders) and 48-hour sales (the top of the page; XCOM and Metro)

And apparently not all of the 15 games at the bottom even are 24-hour sales. Mirror's Edge, The Darkness II, and Papers, Please say they'll be that price until the 22nd.

Are they 24? The text next to the Flash Sales says they change every 12 hours. I see what you mean, though...odd. I think this may be a flub on Steam's end, so I'll wait and see before I make any changes. The starts always ruff, after all.

Are you kidding me? CS:GO is just now on sale?! I just bought it like 1 month ago...
Hopefully they put keys on sales. Please Gaben! Please!

Might pick up BO2 because that was like the last decent COD game and the last I ever owned. I have some good memories with that, so I guess I will pick it up.

Never heard of the others, except GTA, but Dont Starve seems interesting.

Guess I should post it here as well, then.

^ Seconding what machomuu and Klippy said.

Also adding that if you use Chrome, you should seriously consider adding Enhanced Steam to it.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhanced-steam/okadibdjfemgnhjiembecghcbfknbfhg?hl=en

A few of its nicer features:

  • Filter out games you already own.
  • Filter and highlight your wishlisted games.
  • Filter out games you marked as "Not Interested"
  • View the Historical Low (lowest price ever recorded) for every game directly on their store page.
  • Adds a checkbox next to DLC on the base game's store page, to easily select which ones you want.
  • On your Badges page, it will add up an estimated total of how much all your remaining card drops would be worth to sell. "Worth Approximately $70.18"
  • Also allows you to filter your cards based on the Highest Drop Value. Hey, any extra wallet funds are nice this time of year, right? :P

I prefer Firefox and Lunascape, myself, but I got Chrome just for this add-on. There is a Firefox version, but it's unstable and unsupported. :v

Seriously though, it makes browsing Steam so much easier. Especially during sales, so you can weed out what you already own or just don't want.

Seems like this game thing is still a little bit buggy. It only rarely loads properly, I supposedly should've gotten a card for playing the game as well, but there's none in my inventory, buying equipment takes away money, but doesn't get me the actual upgrade, other random data loss, etc.

Well, just an even more awkward way to nerf those trading cards even more, I suppose.

So I picked up Darkest Dungeon as it was the only thing that really interested me today. It's still on Daily, so you've got another 11 hr to get it. BUT GET IT. It's basically Dark Souls meets a dungeon crawler and it's extremely brutal. I've lost countless soldiers already and I'm loving the difficulty. :)

Plus this art style is amazing.

New n Tasty is on the first daily sale, which is unfortunate but at least I can buy it. Add it to your lists if you can, it got rave reviews from community and critics and Oddworld is always a good choice. It's only up for a few more hours though!

Everyone ever should buy Despair -- it's only 9 cents and it has card drops. :P

^ I have wanted Darkest Dungeon since it released, but seeing it on the front page on Day 1 makes me hesitate. I want to wait and see what else the sale has to offer, but it is really tempting.. I was flip-flopping on it all night, "It's probably selling really well so it'll probably be back on the last day for the encore sale.. but if it isn't then I probably won't see it on sale again for months.." Decisions, decisions. :c

I did make up my mind about something, though, lol. Last night, I got Recettear and Chantelise, and then this morning I finally gave in and got the Premium version of DisplayFusion through Steam as well. All the free taskbars for multiple monitors were terrible, DF was totally worth the $9 just for that alone. Think I'll grab the DLC for Surgeon Sim, too, it's only 59 cents.

You have no idea how excited I was to see Recettear in the Flash sales on Day 1. :) It was one of the things from my wishlist that I had planned to watch intensely, along with the list in the spoiler. I don't really have a plan except, "Buy these if they go on sale, and stop when I'm broke." Or something to that effect.

Spoiler:

Man this sale is great. I got FEZ, Waveform, RUSH, Polarity, Out There Somewhere, Camera Obscura, BEEP, and Shadowgate: MacVenture Series for just $5.00 altogether! It's absolutely wonderful! I can't wait until the next set of Flash Deals.
