When you go into the pokemon info screen, underneath the picture of the pokemon theres a bunch of symbols; circle, triangle, square, heart, star, diamond. Do they mean anything? I got a pokemon in a trade and the triangle and square are white/lit up. None of my other pokemon have white symbols. Is there something special about this one?

No they're called marks. It helps identify pokemon. Pretend you had 2 noctowls, one of them was good and another was just used for flying. If you mark one of them with, let's say a circle, you can tell which one's which without having to go to the stats and moves. Nothing special.

Ohh....just like on the marking map. I see. How do you mark your pokemon with symbols? I've never come across it before.

Or you could just look at their movesets, in that scenario. There isn't really a use for marks that careful attention can't fulfill.

Click on a Pokemon and there should be a heading there under the main menu. This was how it went in 3rd gen too.

^Note that you do it on the PC, instead of the summary screen of your party on the start menu.
