Once upon a time, in a realm half past fantasy, a little left of dreamland, deep in your imagination (for by reading this, you too give this world a home, in a way), and a little bit too close to reality for comfort in parts, there lies the Prime Material plane of Phyrenia. It was a peaceful realm governed by its' native Gods: The divine Triad. Solara, the Sun goddess, Umbra, Prince of the Night Sky, and their child, Penta, God of the Dawn, and Goddess of the Dusk. It is said that Phyrenia was created as a place to nurture Penta, far away from the petty scheming and fighting of the other gods of the multiverse. For ages, this worked. However, just because the realm was isolated did not mean that it was a idyllic sculpted utopia created by the Triad (though they did make it lean into some aspects of fairytales and childlike wonder). If it was, their calm little hideaway in the multiverse would never have been shattered.
Once upon a relatively more recent time, there was a great empire of wondrous wizards known as Ceriphos. One day, these wonderful wizards worked their wonderful wizardry and opened a portal to another world, right under the Gods noses (or perhaps approved by them, depending on who is telling the story). They succeeded, and learned the secrets of Automaton Creation, and many other clockwork wonders from the inhabitants of the world beyond the portal.
For several decades, prosperous trade was conducted on both sides of the portal. Then a Wizard that was more worrying than wonderful came to power as emperor. He started to wonder if it might not be so terrible if he was to start a military conquest of the world on the other side of the portal. And so he began to divert resources to building a massive clockwork army (for no person in their right mind would ever agree to fight alongside him,) on his side of the portal under the guise of "farming automation efforts". But to march his army through, the portal would need to be strengthened. The Emperor then gathered what magicians he knew were loyal enough to support his expansionist ambitions to perform the high magic necessary to strengthen the portal.
The ritual would have been perfect, if it hadn't been for the taint of greed in all their hearts, which made the portal rather unstable. It burst into a grand, multiversal, suction field, which later became known as The Rift, pulling things in from all across the multiverse. High Magick has no room for mistakes, and the Magicians learned this at the price of their sanity, and their portal.
In the Aftermath, the Emperor was nowhere to be found. Some say that he was destroyed, some say that he was atomized by the magic released by the destroyed portal. Some say that he was pulled through to some far-flung part of the multiverse where he is either trapped, or building an army to return and finish what he started, depending on who's telling the tale. In any case, his inner circle, in their madness, turned the massive automaton army upon the rest of Phyrenia, intending to subjugate the rest of the world.
It took the combined might of the rest of Phyrenia, coupled with a quick alliance with most of those who had been pulled in by the portal's implosion, to defeat the Ceriphosean empire, but in doing so, it left the continent broken. The lands of the Empire were swiftly claimed by the regrowing wild, the influx of savage monsters pulled from their homes by the Rift, wannabe warlords with enough power to carve out a safe holding out of the wilds, isolated pockets of Ceriphosean remnants, and the Triad knows what else. It's only been 30 years since the Rift, long enough for the Rifted to have a generation that only has known Phyrenia, but not long enough for tales of their old worlds to fade to myth. The Triad now shares their world with many more deities, demons, and spirits, all squabbling for influence upon this realm for their own ends. Much of the Wealth of the Fallen Empire lies unclaimed, and the artifacts of the science and sorcery of a thousand realms lie waiting for someone to claim, or to be wrested from the hands of those who have claimed it. Perhaps you will be the next one to rise to greatness, or infamy, through your actions…
Welcome, welcome, welcome, and thank you for thy interest in this RP! It is an old school inspired RPG campaign with rules taken from multiple old-school RPGs hack-jobbed, mangled, stolen, buzz-sawed and sewn back together with 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. The rules and starting lore knowledge (beyond the dump here) for all players can be found here for those interested or curious. This may not seem Pokémon related at first, and I will understand if the mods here change the thread prefix (I've learned about that from previous attempts at starting a forum RP). I've never attempted something quite like this before, so I am excited to go on this journey with you! If you have any questions, comments, or other such things as you wish to say on the RP, feel free to put it here too.
