With the new modified deck format in the tcg game, I understand you can use only the ruby/sapphire cards and newer. What's this I heard about being able to use cards from previous sets as long as they are also contained in the new sets? Is this a misconception or what?

Say Charizard Base Set was remade into a new set and it did the EXACT same things as the original base set charizard, you would be able to use it. Now if they remade it, but his pokepower or any of his attacks were different in ANY WAY, then you wouldn't be able to use the old base set one. Understand?
