Hallo everyone! I've had an idea for a Challenge (and/or elaborate auto-flagellation method) for a long while, and I'm finally getting around to codifying and posting it! It's an offshoot of the Solo Pokemon Challenge, but with enough changes and quirks that I feel it qualifies as a variant rather than an optional ruleset. That being said, if the community decides it really should be a ruleset, that's fine too-I'll happily change this post if needed. Really, I'm just sharing this to get it 'set in stone' so to speak. And so, here we go:

Rule 1: The Challenger. The player must use a single Pokemon throughout all battles in the game, henceforth referred to as the Challenger. The Challenger is to be generated using an external tool (IE PKHex) and placed in the players' party on a new save. Additional HM Slaves can also be generated at this time--these Pokemon will not participate in battle, and only exist to have access to field moves. The Challenger must be generated within 'tradeable parameters'; it must be at Level 5 and possess no future level-up moves or held items, but can have Egg Moves, TM Moves, specific IVs, Vitamin buffs, and other special applicable moves or traits (such as eligible event moves or cross-Generational Bank transfer). If the Pokemon cannot be obtained at Level 5 (IE Legendaries), it may be generated as if it were possible to obtain at Level 5. However, if the Pokemon evolves via item or friendship, these must be obtained naturally through game progression--for instance, one could theoretically start the game with Raichu, but it must remain a Pichu/Pkiachu until you scrounge a Thunder Stone. If, any point, it becomes necessary to change a moveset with resources unavailable in-game, the challenger may be modified in 'legal traded' ways--no new Egg Moves, for example.
Rule 1a: The Eevee Clause. As Eevee has a plethora of evolutions, which usually take a lot of time to get to, and also because Eevee itself is kind of bad, you are allowed to start the game with an Eeveelution Challenger, generated in the same way as a Legendary or other special case.
Rule 1b: The Variant Clause: In games with Regional Variant evolutions of other Generations' Pokemon, upon evolution you may specifiy which form it becomes. For instance, Cubone can choose between Kanto or Alola Marowak, but Kanto Meowth cannot become Alolan Persian.
Rule 1c: The Pokedex Clause: The Challenger and HM Slaves must be removed from the Pokedex upon generation in any game with Pokedex-based rewards. The Clause is optional in games that do not give any awards for Pokedex completion other than the completion diploma.
Rule 2: The Obsession. The player must complete all content which changes the world. You must collect every item and defeat every Trainer or static encounter, but do not have to catch every Wild Pokemon. For items, said item must be in your inventory at one point in the game; if not found on the overworld or gifted, you must buy it. Trainers may be rematched freely for funding if needed.
Rule 2a: The Gambling Clause. The player is allowed to generate Coins for unique Game Corner goodies, but not Battle Points.
Rule 2b: The Diploma Clause. The Pokedex diploma, or any other reward that rewards a full Pokedex, is excepted. However, rewards from Pokedex milestones, as seen with Oak's aides, are required.
Rule 3: The Honor. The player is not allowed to use healing items in-battle. Poke Balls and held items are allowed, but no Potions or X Items. The player must also adhere to a level cap based on the next 'major fight'--if/when the Challenger exceeds this level cap, they must be de-leveled using an external program. Evolutions and level-up moves obtained after the level cap are not allowed, but gained EVs are kept.

Essentially, this is a Solo Challenge designed to see everything a given game has to offer, while avoiding the usual strategy of 'power-level your problems away'. I fully acknowledge this may be impossible for some Pokemon (my first attempt at this after posting this will be Gen1 Geodude/Graveler/Golem, and I totally can see Misty just saying 'no'), but IMO that's part of the fun. And/or madness. Anyone else who devalues their sanity and wishes to partake, feel free to post progress! I'd love to see if anyone else will do this. Thanks for reading!

As an addition, feel free to use my checklist for Red/Blue if those are the games you're going for! I did add a few not-strictly-needed steps (and encourage other such personalizations!), but you can feel free to use this list, as I have already scoured Bulbapedia to make it. Buen provecho!

Update 1 on the Red Golem run; to the best of my knowledge, TM moves are absolutely needed to beat Brock at the level cap of 14. Geodude 'naturally' only has Tackle and Defense Curl at this level, and even accounting for Tackle never missing (which it will), Brock's own Geodude only takes about 1 damage from it, maybe two if it crits. Even if you can take down Geodude, it'll both land some hits on you and burn through most of your PP, and then there's a whole other Rock foe to deal with. And Onix, predictably, also takes 1 damage from Tackle, so you'll run out of PP entirely. If you pre-game by draining Defense Curl against wilds, you could Struggle, but the recoil combined with Onix's Bide will end you. Owing to how Red/Blue handles enemy stats (no EVs, specific IV spread of 8/9/8/8/8), there isn't a realistic way to hit Tackles 17-33 times against Geodude, hit the last 2-18 Tackles on Onix and hitting every Struggle against Onix's remaining 34-18 HP, *and* not have Brock hit you with Tackle, Bind or Bide throughout it.

TL;DR, Tackle alone won't get Geodude past Brock at the level cap.

Update 2: currently trying for a very Hail Mary strategy of offing Misty at the level cap of 21 with Geodude. Misty has a 1/4 chance per Pokemon of using an X Defend, which means Geodude could in theory set up a Double-Team on that turn (or if the fabled 1/256 glitch happens, I suppose). Then, comboing more Double-Teams with Substitute and Dig rather than Earthquake (they both have a base power of 100, because Gen 1 is madness), I could have my Geodude be the world's worst avoidance tank, and bombard Arceus with prayers that neither Staryu or Starmie bypass my shenanigans to one shot my rock. Even with maxed-out, item-pilled EVs, Geodude cannot survive Starmie's attacks, and after an X Defend cannot one shot Starmie without a critical hit (which, Gen 1 being Gen 1, only has a roughly 0.8% of happening here). Wish me luck, I guess!

Update 3: Misty is downed! Took quite a few tries, but the plan did eventually work out. I did have to restart the challenge too (weirdness with a PKHex update breaking the PC system being the culprit) so I can also confirm the strat is realistically repeatable. I don't expect any more major roadblocks until Erika, and even then having Golem rather than Geodude should get me through that without too many tears.

Update 4! Erika is defeatable at the level cap, though I did use another Double-Team strat. With both at Level 29, Golem isn't gonna realistically outspeed Victrreebel, but owing to Erika's AI it can only use Sleep Powder and Razor Leaf. If the first attack misses, you can Body Slam and hope for a Paralysis. If that happens, you can then outspeed and get the KO with Dig. Tangela doesn't actually have any Grass moves, though Constrict's Speed drops can be an issue. Still, Tangela is prime for setting up on, and then you can take it out easy. Vileplume goes down to two Digs; though notably DWAYNE naturally outsped Vileplume sans Speed drops, without Evasion boosts it'll just one-shot with either of its attacks. Still, Erika can be taken down at Level 29 without Vitamin spamming or item use!

Update 5; Terminal Obssesion with Golem is completed! I kind of figured Lorelei might be a road block, but a combination of Gen 1 AI and Rock Slide pulled me through pretty easily. Also, I discovered too late that after the S.S Anne leaves port, you cannot get to the fabled truck, but seeing as that's essentially a joke I'm fine with not counting it towards the challenge in hindsight. Here are the final states of DWAYNE the Golem after all is said and done. Thanks for reading!

    -DWAYNE
    --Level: 66 at Credits, 67 Post-Mewtwo and Oak, 85 Post EV-maxing
--Final Moveset: Substitute, Rock Slide, Earthquake, Hyper Beam
--Thresholds passed w/o TMs or Vitamins: 6/9 (C Rank)
--Comments: Water types were a problem all throughout more or less.
