[PokeCommunity.com] The Abandoned Ship - Sea Mauville シーキンセツ

The abandoned ship on ORAS was something else. At least in my opinion! You see, before, I don't think many people paid much mind to it back in R/S/E, or rather, it was forgotten about in many cases but this time, the abandoned ship served more purposes: to find more treasure, and to learn about certain characters in detail.

According to what's been said, it was a facility led by Wattson to extract the natural resources of the ocean. Unfortunately, in a nutshell, there were many incidents, and thus, the facility was closed. On the plus side, the ruins had created a unique habitat for Pokémon and plants, and so, the ruin was revived as a natural preserve. There were many letters, and other documents that explained the situation, as well as other tidbits about the characters.

Oh and! A great part about this place is, there are treasures to be found! You could find 8 Big Nuggets, 4 regular nuggets, a Beedrillite, a TM for Ice Beam, and so on. Another great thing about this place is, this is where you could find Ho-oh and Lugia, depending on which game you have (OR for Ho-oh, AS for Lugia). You can even find a Spiritomb though some measures!

    Now for discussion questions:
    • What did you think of Sea Mauville when you explored or heard about it?
    • What did you think of the events that took place in this place, as well as the people involved?
    • Any other thoughts? Feel free to share! (you don't have to put this all into lists)

I mean, personally, I have to say that they did a great job fleshing out the characters in this, as well as the place in general. It felt totally new to explore, and all the while, I was quite intrigued by everything!

    • What did you think of Sea Mauville when you explored or heard about it? Not much, I seen people. But over all didn't think anything till I seen the guy talking about a treasure. Didn't expect all those nuggets, funny thing was that old man was just after that Pokedoll looking thing.

    • What did you think of the events that took place in this place, as well as the people involved? Alright I didn't even know about this place in the original games. The play through in AS, Spiritomb was a complete accident. Didn't know to have it appear, I went to bag to heal a Pokémon on my team, closed bag and Spiritomb was behind me.

I thought it was one of the cooler places in the games. And I explored all of it and found the treasure! I didnt know you could find spiritomb here or the legendaries...

I think that another over looked place in Hoenn is New Mauville. I think it was going to be an underground city but was abandoned for some reason. Too bad we can't explore the rest of it! :( All we get to see is a stupid power plant lol

I loved the ship and its story, New Mauville was boring by comparison. Nice to see but dull.

I loved how they expanded it and gave it more backstory, plus it was nice being able to collect some stuff, including the Beedrillite. The fact you can catch both Spiritomb and Ho-Oh/Lugia is another reason to make it worthwhile visiting.

Ah so many treasures! When I first found the room with all the nuggets and the beedrillite I was like. o_____o I still have yet to obtain the Spirtomb in the ship through. :c Overall it is a pretty awesome place. But I guess as someone else mentioned, New Mauville is pretty boring now. So guess they switched the two locations in matters of which location is more interesting.

At least that's how I see it comparing ORAS with RSE.

I loved being there and exploring everything. I'd say this is a very emotional part of the game. You go in there, find all these little pieces of a puzzle, you put them together and you get the picture of a very oppressive place to be.
I was surprised at how dark both the letters and the other documents you find in the ship are. The man with no power talking about all the people left without a job, professor Cozmo's letters detailing the deterioration of his parents' marriage... wow. That's a new one for Pokémon.

I'd have to say that the most emotional part (at least for me) was seeing professor Cozmo's father back in the storage hold. His nephew comes after you and talks about all the goods in there. At that point I thought the Street Thug was going to challenge you and the scene would've ended with a battle. Instead, the game takes a completely different route.
Raizoh Cosmo comes in, takes the Skitty doll and goes away. He literally didn't care about all the gold in there. He just wanted his son's doll back. That scene was one of the highlights of the game for me, and it very much pulled at my heartstrings.

Oh, and if that weren't enough awesomeness concentrated in one place, Spiritomb is there too! Reading "It feels as though you're being watched" while my character was in an abandoned ship creeped the living hell out of me.

TL;DR Awesome, involving place. I wish Game Freak would do stuff like this more often.

I really loved this place, felt like one of the few places that took on the spirit of Gen V and Gen VI (AKA deeper darker themes + more storytelling). I would have loved it if even more places had such little tidbits like the journal, etc. rather than just sticking to the original.

And the doll theme reminded me very strongly N and how his childhood was wrecked too. :(
