Hey everyone! This story might be a little different than some of the fanfics posted here. I don?t know how receptive this concept of a crossover between Pokemon and Digimon is, as well as including the Mole, but I hope you?ll like it. For those who don?t know, the Mole is a reality television show where a number of players work together in challenges to accumulate money in a pot that one winner will take in entirety at the end of the show. However one certain player is hired by the producers to secretly cause sabotages in the game. That player is also known as the Mole.

    Episode 1.1: The Biggest Ego

A little microphone in Yamaki?s ear was stating his next few lines.

The intimidating blonde stood confidently at the front of the mini tour-bus. His tiny eyes stirred behind a pair of black shades, analyzing the ten passengers and several discreetly positioned cameramen.

Outside of every window was a beautiful display of Niagara Falls with all its glory. Sounds of mighty waterfall waves clashing against the jagged rocks can be heard if one listened very, very closely.

?Two groups of five from the Pokemon and Digimon series will be working together to complete challenges that could earn them to a maximum amount of one million dollars.?

And as the host spoke, the players reluctantly pulled their eyes away from the window, putting the limelight focus back on the blonde again.

"Using their observation skills, the players must try to collect all the possible clues to find out the Mole's secret identity. At the end of each episode, the players will have to take a quiz of ten questions about the Mole. The player who answers the least amount of questions correctly will be executed. Who is the Mole?"

At the back of the bus, Tracey Sketchit watched the charismatic host babble on his next few lines. Like many others on the bus, he had little interest in what Yamaki was actually saying.

    Borrrrrr-ing!

The enthusiastic Pokemon Trainer was pumped to be playing on his favourite reality show of all time. Not Survivor, it was too political! Forget Big Brother, it was too sleazy! None of the reality shows could ever match the superiority of The Mole.

It was Professional Oak ? his lifetime idol - who recommended Tracey for the show, boasting how his faithful assistant would do wonders on a show dealing with investigative observation. This game was made for someone like Tracey to play, win and dominate.

But what if he doesn?t win the game? What would Professor Oak think of him then? Worst of all?what if he was executed first!?

The horror of that! No, he simply cannot think about that!

Using his sharp analytical eyes, Tracey looked around the bus to size his competition. He was already taking mental notes down in his head, dismissing the weaklings and highlighting the major players in the game.

Sitting in front of him was Ash Ketchum, the ambitious Pokemon trainer from Pallet Town. The young boy was wearing his token baseball camp on top of his scruffish black hair, pressing his boyish face against the window to enjoy a glamourous view of the waterfall.

    Not a threat.

In the first seat of the aisle sat Gary Oak, the arrogant grandson of the man he respected the most. Tracey?s nostrils flared slightly with envy as he watched Gary, listening attentively to Yamaki?s instructions like an obedient student in a classroom.

    Threat.

There was Jeri Katou, the friendly girl with innocent big eyes. She held a orange hand puppet, imitating Yamaki while he spoke.

    Not a threat.

Mild mannered Sora Takenouchi sat in the front, using her long attention span to capture every word coming out of Yamaki?s mouth. She sat in a strict and uptight manner, but carried a soft motherly smile on her face.

    Mole.

    * * *

After the obligatory instructions were completed, the players were psyched to finally begin their first challenge.

?Your first task is to elect one leader to represent all of you. You have two minutes with your decision,? said Yamaki, relaying the words from his ear.

Ash Ketchum proudly erected his body forward from a lazy slouch. Yamaki asked for a natural leader, and the young trainer believed he fulfilled all the necessary traits of a good leader. He was not afraid to take risks, and he always put others in consideration before himself. Ash had no question in his mind that he would be selected to be the leader.

    They?d be stupid not to.

?It is obvious who should be the leader of this pack, isn?t it?? asked Gary, carrying an arrogant smirk on his face.

?No, I don?t think so, you are definitely not a leader.? Jessie abruptly cut in. As usual, the feisty Team Rocket member got straight to her point without any flattering words.

?Not a good leader,? echoed Ash.

Gary rolls his eyes, shifting his sight to the window. He wasn?t interested to partake in the conversation if he was excluded.

?I know someone who is responsible enough to be the representative,? said a deep soothing voice at the back of the bus. It belonged to Matt Ishida, the handsome blonde with a set of captivating blue eyes. As charming as he presented to be, there was an air of manipulation surrounded around the stud.

Ash jumped up from his seat. He did not wait for Matt to call out his name, because he knew that Matt was talking about him.

?Ash, why are you standing up?? asked Tracey.

The self claimed leader scratched his head, nervously smiled and then dropped back into his seat, ignoring the glances of ridicule from the other players.

?I nominate Sora. She would make an excellent leader,? proposed Matt.

    ?I second that!? Yolei agreed.

?Sora would be a good leader, I?m good at reading people,? confirmed Tracey, thrusting the third nail into Ash?s ego.

Then the group unanimously voted Sora to be their leader, and the modest teen felt a faint smile spread across her lips. First day of the game, and all the players had already put their absolute trust in her. If Sora Takenouchi was the Mole, they?d all be toast by now.

?Aw thanks guys. I?ll try my best.?

?Sora,? said Yamaki, ?The group elected you to be their leader. Please come with me outside to discuss about your duties.?

The bus pulled to a sudden stop, as the new leader followed Yamaki off the bus, excited but unsure at the aspects of her new title.

?Niagara Falls,? Yamaki said, ?This is the eventful quarter of the city where we will hold our first three challenges. But before we do anything, I?d like to make an offer.?

A vigorous grin popped on the girl?s face. She was always ready for surprises.

?As the leader, you will be making some very difficult decisions in the game. Right now, I present to you your first decision,? said Yamaki, ?You may either choose to add $5,000 into the pot, or get two bonus points on the quiz.?

Oh, it is going to be good! Sora rubbed her hands together, anticipating in making a power move in this game. It was a move that will either help her or break her.

?I will need a response in a minute.?

Sora took a glance at the unsuspecting players on the bus, doubtful if they will forgive her if she took the two bonus points on the quiz. It wasn?t going to be a popular way to start the game if all the other players hated her for the wrong choice!

Deep inside, she knew the two bonus points on the quiz will almost be like a free pass to the next round, especially when there are nine other competitors. It would be the smart thing to do, ensuring safety on the first quiz.

?Let?s?add the money into the pot,? Sora looked at Yamaki for his reaction before continuing, ?I don?t think it is likely I will be eliminated first, right??

?Congratulations Sora, you?ve added your first batch of money into the pot!?

    POT: $5,000/$5,000

Sora smiled softly. She thought she picked the correct choice --- a selfless choice --- but she was happy that she didn?t let her team down.

?For our next part of the challenge, you need to divide the remaining nine players into three categories,? said Yamaki, holding up three fingers in his hand.

?We need three navigators, three negotiators, three athletes and one darn good leader.?

    * * *

?I wonder what they are talking about,? Matt asked the purple haired girl sitting in front of him. He leered curiously out the window to watch his girlfriend converse nonchalantly with the charming host.

Yolei Inoue didn?t reply, for she was too focused staring ever so rudely at Gary. Her eyes ran up and down his athletic body countless times, and her colourful imagination exploded as she thought of compromising thoughts of the teenager she only met ten minutes ago.

?Gary is pretty cute, isn?t he?? Yolei asked her comrade in a whisper.

?That guy isolated him from the rest of the group. He is either really quiet, or the Mole,? snickered Matt, turning his head casually to take a glimpse of Gary.

?Come on, Matt. Just because he doesn?t like talking, it doesn?t make him the Mole!?

?He kind of reminds me of myself. We are both the strong and silent types, you know.?

Yolei nodded without a response. She wouldn?t call it love at first sight, but there was something about his cocky demeanor that made her lusting for more. Her eyes were still glued passionately on Gary.

Yolei entered the game to win, or at least put up a good fight against all the other players. But all thoughts of competing were thrown out of the window in disregard from the moment she saw Gary. Right now, her mind was only buzzing with one thing:

The most important thing about this game is to end up with a cute boyfriend.

But Yolei wasn?t the only person who seemed to be interested in Gary. Ambitious pokemon trainer Ash was also psyched to meet Gary, but for a completely different reason.

He was going to kick Gary Oak?s smug little butt.

?I don?t get it, what?s an exemption again?? Ash asked. The trainer was putting aside his loathe against Gary?at least for now.

Tracey leaned forward in his seat, attempting his best to explain, ?An exemption is like a free pass to the next round. If you win an exemption, you proceed to the next round.?

The big words were obviously not processing into Ash?s head very clearly.

?Huh? Do I still need to take the quiz??

Misty Waterflower smacked her forehead in frustration. Even though the aggressive tomboy had been a friend of Ash for quite a while, she still found him rather slow in the thinking department.

?Never mind, Ash,? said Tracey. He too had given up on explaining to Ash.

?But an exemption would be really neat to get in the game,? Misty said to Tracey, excluding Ash from the conversation, ?Especially this early on in the game.?

?Definitely! Obtaining an exemption is one step closer to the final round.?

?It?s going to be really helpful in the game to have an exemption,? Misty nodded her head, gazing her eyes back to the prominent waterfall.

Tracey sank back into his seat deep in thought. While he may not be as cutthroat as some of the other players on the bus, he was still a strong competitor who didn?t like to lose. Imagine the humility of being executed first in the game! And yet the possibility isn?t so farfetched in Tracey?s head.

Oh no, he cannot be executed first. Tracey simply won?t allow it.

Even if it meant that he will do anything to win the ever valuable exemption.

Do you hear that? It's the crickets chriping ever so loudly...

For the few people who might be interested, you can check out the entire chapter (as well as Chapter 2 and 3) at www.fanfiction.net/~gomamon. I've only divided the first chapter into subsections here because I thought it was too long. Anyway...

    Chapter 1.2: The Biggest Ego
Yamaki instructed the nine players to leave the bus. They were ready to start their first challenge.

?Your leader Sora put $5,000 into the pot by refusing two bonus points on her quiz,? Yamaki announced. Sora modestly smiled at the claps and hollers from her fellow players.

?She was then asked to select three navigators from the group. That would be Gary, Kenta and Tracey. The three of you will lead your fellow players to a Hilton Hotel where you will be living in for the next few days. You will be given one map of downtown Toronto, and all ten of you are expected to arrive in one hour,? said Yamaki.

?How much money will we be playing for?? asked Tracey, being the most observant of the group. He paid close attention to even the tiniest detail missing from Yamaki?s speech.

?Sora wagered a sum of money into it,? Yamaki answered vaguely, ?Anyway, players not participating in the challenge are not permitted to talk or assist. I will take $1,000 off every time someone breaks the rule. With that said, let?s begin the challenge.?

Yamaki handed Tracey a folded map of Toronto, and then silently marched to the back of the pack.

?Just follow us! We?ll lead you to the hotel in no time!? Tracey's cheery voice chirped, flashing an enthusiastic grin on his face.

?First, we need to locate the hotel,? said Gary in his usual condescending tone.

Kenta was quick to point out where the hotel was on the map.

?And then we need to find out where we are.?

The glasses wearing kid raced to the street, searching frantically for street signs. Meanwhile, Gary was particularly interested in a marker highlighted area at the lower half of the map.

    ?What?s this??

His partner Tracey also studied the map closely, gently pressing his index finger over the green highlight.

?Light green is the colour of exemptions, right?? asked Tracey.

    ?Uh, I dunno.?

?It is going to be a long walk, but the directions are easy. We only need to take one left turn,? said Kenta, unaware of the new discovery his two partners found.

Tracey?s finger was still planted on the highlighted building and looked at Gary for reassurance.

?We think this place might have something to do with an exemption,? said Tracey quietly.

?Exemptions,? corrected Gary with wishful thinking.

?I don?t like the idea,? Kenta frowned and shook his head, ?It is a completely different route from where the hotel is. We won?t have enough time to go to both.?

?We could make a little detour?it?d be really quick.?

?Let?s just go to the hotel,? Kenta said. He didn?t like the distraction, knowing that it will definitely throw the group off course --- and they haven?t even begun yet!

Unsatisfied, Tracey turned over his map for more information. Sure enough, he found a written passage on a blank area, indicating that there is a valuable exemption in the highlighted building. However, only one navigator could go retrieve the exemption.

?I?ll go!? Tracey volunteered immediately. His eyes twinkled with hope. Suddenly, all thoughts of the actual challenge vanished because the Pokemon Watcher decided that he was more interested winning the exemption instead.

?Wait! I don?t think it?s a good idea we split up,? Gary warned, suspicion foaming in his voice, ?Besides, I found the place first!?

?It?s an exemption!? And from the way Tracey stressed the final word, one would think it was something that meant life and death to the Pokemon watcher.

?It isn?t fair you get an exemption when we don?t!? argued Gary, scrunching up his face.

But Gary never received a response when Tracey suddenly dashed off after, chuckling slightly to himself as he abandoned the group for his own interests. He had memorized the address down and his only objective now was to reach the location on time.

Kenta looked absolutely flustered that one of their teammates would abandon them in the middle of the challenge. Jumping instantly to panic mode, train of nervous thoughts roared through his meek little head. How are we going to finish this challenge!?

?Neither Kenta nor I took the exemption when we had the chance. Tracey only cares about Tracey, and he doesn?t regard jack about anybody else. Sketchit is definitely on my hit list after this,? Gary said in a camera interview, summing up mostly everybody?s thoughts at the moment.

The two navigators quickly recovered with the absence of their third member, and continued to lead the group through the busy streets of Toronto.

?We should walk straight ahead, with or without Tracey!? said Gary, waving the map in his hand like a tourist flag. The pokemon researcher fell into the role of the leader since little Kenta was too reserved for leading.

Striding through the street in her four inched high heels and sweat clinging to her long sleeved turtleneck sweater, Jessie was getting less comfortable with each passing minute. It boiled down to the point when finally it was too much for Jessie. She had to say something, anything!

    ?I?m really tired, guys.?

?$1,000 deduction for talking, Jessie," said the host. Jessie rolled her eyes, flipping her middle finger at him in a juvenile and childish manner.

Gary?s eyes were buried in the map, and then he made a confident left turn. But his teammate Kenta was uncertain with Gary?s decision. ?Are you sure we turn left this street? I thought it was the next street.?

Without saying anything, Gary only gave Kenta the map to read, and Kenta realized that he was about to give Gary the satisfaction of being right.

?Oh I see. You?re right. Sorry, that?s my mistake.?

    ?Good for you.?

Ash rolled his eyes behind Gary?s back. If Misty had not anxiously slapped her hand over his mouth, Ash probably would have told Gary to shove his attitude up his behind by now. The mouthy trainer would be the first to admit that he was not a Gary fan, and he probably wasn?t alone on this topic either.

?Gary is a big fat condescending jerk. He likes to talk down to people because he thinks he is superior to the rest of us mere mortals. Oh all hail King Gary.? Ash vented angrily to the camera. Normally he wouldn?t put so much energy to be negative toward a person, but he made a special exception for Gary.

He pumped his fists into his hand. Ash Ketchum was getting real livid just talking and thinking about his Pallet Town rival.

?What is it with this guy? Every time he opens his mouth, I hate him more and more. So do a favour for the rest of us, Gary. Just shut up!?

Those were all the words he said in a confessional, but for the sake of the challenge, Ash kept his opinions to himself.

The trainer from Pallet Town didn?t intentionally sign up for the game. He had mistaken the application form to be entry for yet another Pokemon battling tournament. But when he found out he actually signed up for The Mole, he knew the offer was too good to back down. In fact, it was such a decent proposal that he left the responsibilities of Pikachu and his other Pokemon to Brock while he played the game.

Winning was one major motivation for him to leave the Pokemon world for a while to play this game. The competitive side of this Pokemon trainer always prevailed. He loved the sheer victory of pummeling his opponents to bits. He loved the bragging rights to namedrop his successes to random acquaintances he meet in his future journeys.

But at the end it all boiled down to one reason: Ash Ketchum was playing to outlast Gary Oak.

    * * *

Tracey glanced at the teammates he abandoned an hour ago, and their deadly glares shot back at Tracey like nine daggers. Gary in particular was fuming. He almost looked like he was about to throw a punch at watcher?s smiling face.

But Tracey knew he was the only person who would definitely be in the next round.

    And he was happy.

?I don't CARE,? Tracey said to the cameras, emphasizing his last word. He leaned back in his chair, fiddling his fingers playfully. ?They could hate me all they want. But someone is getting executed, and it ain?t going to be me. Instead of focusing their anger on me, they should actually worry about staying in the game first! Ha!?

Tracey chuckled mockingly. He knew Professor Oak would be proud.

?If any of them think I am the Mole after this challenge. Then I?m killing two birds with one stone. Let them get delusional in the game. Ha! Ha! Ha!?

There was one thing that this Pokemon Watcher did not account for, and despite being safe from the deadly execution tonight, he was oblivious to the fact that he just became the most hated player in this game.
