Well it has been decided, Fuecoco is, without a doubt, the best starter of the Gen 9 trio (possibly ever? remains to be seen). Sadly anybody who disagrees is incorrect.

But for real, look at how friend-shaped he is!!!! What do you think he'll evolve into? Typing?

It reminds me of Totodile, which is one of my favorite first stage starters. I hope for Fire/Dragon final evolution, it would be a great typing, no glaring 4x weaknesses, and it makes sense because reptile Pokémon are allways related to the Dragon type.

This is the first gen where I truly love each starter, I don't think I could possibly name a favorite.

But oh my god Fuecoco looks like an enemy from the Kirby franchise! It's so round and cute and shaped like a friend! I love how it even almost has an apple-like appearance too, which makes me feel like we might get a dragon typing out of the later evolutions. Also finally some more crocodile representation! Totodile who?

Either way *mwah* top tier starter.

I really think it might be Fire/Steel. But I am not 100% sure. We haven't gotten a Fire/Ground yet to finish the starter evolutions of Secondary ground typing. Torterra was Grass/Ground and Swamper was Water/Ground. But we also haven't gotten more steel type secondary since Empoleon.

This was the first pokemon to capture my attention more than the other two in a while. I think the last gen that had a dominating starter for me was Gen 5.

I too am on the would like it to be Fire/Dragon train but I don't think that'll happen… steel would be interesting

I need a hundred of them. In plushies. So I can dote on this li'l friend-shaped chili pepper forever!! Make room Piplup, Fuecoco has joined you on the top-tier starter pedestal!

Fire/Dragon would be very nice, or even Fire/Water. I'm just speculating here without much to go on, but maybe the typings could also be:

Fuecoco = Fire/Grass (if they lean into the pepper/apple? design)
    Sprigatito = Grass/Water
Quaxly = Water/Fire (I'm thinking if he ends up with some kind of pirate/battle-arm aesthetic haha)

Granted I don't much reason to make these assumptions based on first-stage appearances alone (nothing about Quaxly speaks fire) but I wouldn't mind it!

I hope that it turns into a Basilisk as a way to follow the whole zodiac theme that the fire pokemon starters have been going with, then again a crocodile could already count for snake.

Ah yes, I rember spending way too long trying to find out what animal this was. Even now I know I can only barely see the resemblance.

That said, I still like it though. No, I do not think this is going to be Fire/Fighting. There are so many possibilities and you think it should be a fourth repeat typing?

This does look like a lot of possibilities for typings, but I'll bet on Fire/Ground. The other two starter types had Ground representatives so long ago so it only makes sense that Fire would get one sooner or later. Fire/Rock would be my second choice.

Fuecoco looks nice. I picked him out of the three. However, hope its last form becomes a Fire/Ghost (ghost peppers) or Fire/Dragon. Or close to Ground typings.

I like idea of a ghost pepper fire/ghost............ Fuecoco is an adorable little dino though, which is why i am hoping for a final evolution of a Dilophosaurus with spanish pattern on neck frill. It still could be fire/ghost.. I just like to think dinosaur for this little guy's ego line.

I'm also on team Ghost Pepper for the final evolution, but I'm also curious if it might go Seprerior and go from lizard to serpent because of things like the snake pepper. While yes the snake pepper is native to Turky it is a real thing. He could also lean into the fact that it's Spain and male alligators are called bulls by mixing in cattle features, referencing Spain's famous sport and making a good pun....and keeping the Zodiac alive. I'm not burying it till we see that final evolution damn it.

Ahhhh this baby! I was originally going to pick Sprigatito, which would have made it the first time in a while that I picked Grass for my initial team (I picked Snivy in Gen V but in hindsight should have picked Oshawott, and picked Rowlet in US/UM but only for a mono-Ghost run), but the idea of a green cat turned me off. Then I took a much closer look at Fuecoco, and found it so adorably silly that it ended up being my favourite of the three. Plus, the fact it is partially based on a chili pepper reminds me of two of my favourite Fakemon - Pepequeno and Scovile from Xenoverse. I was really miffed about these Pokémon not being canon (especially because I have a shiny one in my main save file), but then Fuecoco came along and saved the day!

Whatever its type ends up being, I do have one hope for it - to stay cute throughout all its stages. Sure, Fire-type starters are luckier in that regard than most starters, but I don't want it to lose its silliness just because it's a reptile 'Mon. At the least cute, I'd take a Bowser mock-up, but anything below that and I'm taking out the Everstone. Fuecoquito. Stays. Cute. Alright?
