It's a middle stage, like with most the first stage is cuter and the final stage is stronger, but I don't have an objection to it. It's just an helpful terrier. I will give it my upvote.

In Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, Herdier is a shop owner with a pirate/tough man's accent. I really think that fits the old dog personality archetype that fits Herdier so well in my opinion.

Herdier weighs like 32 lbs making it rather small. Also love the bushy looking beard it has to give that tough as nails, almost pirate, maybe sailor, type of look. Herdier the kind of dog you can share a beer with and it will still have a higher tolerance than you.

Herdier I think is based on either a Yorkshire or Scottish terrier-- to me it looks more like the latter, but people say it is a Yorkie, in any case both are small dogs. I don't hold that against them though- I like those breeds, but actually prefer big dogs. I have been around Chows, German Shepherds, Labs, currently a Great Pyrenees. The smallest dog i have had is a pitbull, which is not small.

Herdier raises other pokemon alongside its trainer. This is a loyal dog that can be a shepherd dog.

There's quite a bit of cool pokedex text for herdier. My favorite being in Ultra Moon, "It has been living with people for so long that portrayals of it can be found on the walls of caves from long, long ago."

Herdier is a pokemon that does not blindly follows its master. If it does not respect its master it will refuse to obey. If it does respect its master then it will follow them faithfully. Does that make Herdier have a sort of moral compass? Can it think rationally on its own? I wonder.

Herdier can learn sand rush as an ability. I find that interesting because the pokedex entries state Herdier is a pokemon that is difficult to keep well groomed. So if it plays in the sand a lot and isn't kept groomed does that make it faster? I find that interesting. A dog that is faster the more it is covered in sand. Makes sense for rock/ground/steel pokemon but for a normal type it is unique.

Herdier's shiny gives it a grey fur coat compared to the indigo one. I think grey looks amazing for Herdier.

Also Lenora is my favorite gen 5 gym leader.
