They swindled me!

When shopping at a retail store or a gaming store, have you ever gotten swindled by a sales associate?

I remember going to Journeys and I was getting a new pair of Vans. The sales associate was like, "hey you want these black no-show socks? They look great with those sneakers."
And of course I was like "A pack of socks that I'll probably never wear? Do I!"

Needless to say I walked out the store feeling dumb and $10 poorer than needed.

I've gotten swindled into buying useless warranties before countless times. Granted it could be useful, I have spent way more on them than I ever would have gotten out of actually using one.

Lolno. I can't afford to waste my cash on shit I don't need.

    > needs something
    > goes to buy it
    > leaves

    Simple as that.

plenty of times, i shouldn't shop by myself lmao. i went to shop dress up and it seemed like some girl went in and ripped everything cute in my size so the tags were marked and the dresses were discounted. i saw one dress that was amaze for $31 (I was blinded by the dress and missed the price tag) which was $15 less than the original and i had to buy it. i got home and tried it on realizing it was backless and spaghetti strapped which meant it had no chance of staying up and there was a rip in the front. i checked the recipt and all sales were final, it really hurt. :,(

i'll prob insert the picture later.

I was able to abstain from the clerk suckering me into some sucky subscription while buying a $50 game I didn't need. Clearly my priorities are off lol

I am a sucker for swindling sales associates. I say yes to everything.

BUT NOW THAT I'M LEARNING HOW TO BUDGET, I now realize that it is okay to say "no thanks!" because they will understand!

Whenever you buy an old game in a series and they ask if you want to preorder the bad soon-to-come-out new one.

"Sure! If I like this version the new one can't be much worse!"

I was wrong. So horribly wrong.

I used to work in a music shop (instruments and equipment, not records, that is) and this sorta stuff happened all the time. "Oh, if you're getting a new amp then maybe think about buying a higher quality lead?" "You wouldn't want that guitar to get damaged, right? Have you got a strap for it? A hard case?". The idea was that someone focussed in hard on an expensive item (say a £320 guitar, for arguments' sake (although on the scale of these sorts of things that's not all that expensive really)) that they wanted to buy but didn't pay much attention to what they did or didn't need to go with it; you find out what they're interested in, push it only to a very slightly higher-priced model (convince them to get a £350 one instead) and explain why they don't need the one above that to make it sound like they were getting a good deal and to make yourself sound like a stand-up guy who has their best interests in mind (discourage them away from going above £350 because reasons x, y and z), then reap in the difference on accessories that they don't need / have never heard of. Now they've came in intending to spend £320 and before you know it they've been ramped up to £400+ - all while thinking you were being an honest, genuine salesman.

Needless to say (I hope!) I wasn't a fan of this so with customers I liked I gave them actual, honest advice. Often got them to go for a cheaper product that did exactly the same thing. With ones that were pushy / closed-minded about their purchases / clearly hadn't done their research I swindled the hell out of them though, haha. At least they left happy.

I got swindled into buying a fucking fucked up car for near 7K.

Not often do I get swindled. If they even notice me I usually just tell them to leave me alone or that I know what I'm getting already, I'm just browsing and that they should just go help someone else. I know what I need and don't need, so it's hard for people to sell me something.
