Was my standard introduction thread wrong?

In many forums I've joined, I try to use a lolcat salute (O HAI!) as my introduction thread, along other lines of diplomatic amorphous sentences. I've found, however, instead of making my post an attractive one, one or two people end up commenting, while other intro thread have around six people congratulating the newbie. I want to be part of this forum, and, if possible, avoid errors that could end up marking me as an isolated, lolcat-braindamaged guy.

But this isn't the correct section for a thread like this, so I'll have to close this.
