[Other] Weird Emerald issues

Okay, so I'm working on an Emerald hack that recreates the Kanto region. Each route/city will be equal to it's size in HG/SS, and so the maps are pretty big. I mapped Pallet Town & Route 1, but then I accidentally screwed up, so then I started from scratch again. This time I mapped Pallet Town, Route 1, Viridian City, and part of Route 2 (originally when I was working on Pallet Town I cleared the entire tileset and then put it back to 144 so then I can have 144 blank tiles to work with from scratch).

I'm using AdvanceMap 1.92, and there were weird things in the tile data of Tileset 1, so I manually fixed them all. When I changed the size of a map, things went fine, but then later when I changed the size of Route 2 again, the tileset suddenly expanded to 512 (it was originally at 144). I put it back to 144, and resumed mapping. But then I noticed that the unused tiles became completely random tiles, so I fixed it by shrinking a small part of the tileset again, and then putting it back to 144. And then after that, all of the block data for the existing tiles were completely messed up. I loaded Route 2 in AdvanceMap again, and the first few rows of tiles were completely blank. Then I opened the Rom on VBA, and the maps were completely black (except for the animated tiles, such as flowers). Then I opened up the ROM on AdvanceMap again, but now I can't open ANY map at all, instead I get a message saying,
Access violation at address 004CCB2A in module 'AdvanceMap.exe'. Read address of 00000000.

Okay, so can anybody explain this? I remember somebody saying that Emerald version is really unstable, but then others started to point out that it isn't, but now I'm starting to believe it really is...

Luckily I have a backup of the rom, with Pallet Town, Route 1, Viridian City, and 70% of Route 2 on my flashdrive.

If you are messing with something you have no idea about, then it is bound to go wrong. Actually, your problem isn't too weird. If you change the amount of blocks, sometimes it can go wrong, and give every tile FF behaviour and background. This can cause errors. There is a way to bypass this, well 2.

    1. Don't do it!
    2. If it already says 512 in the Block amount before you have even edited it, change it to what it originally was, Save the Block Data (Blocks, Save Tileset 2 as), then resize. If it goes wrong, then reload and try again. However, bear in mind that Route 102 in Emerald has the same Tileset as Route 101, so if you didn't change the Tileset before, that is why.

Judging by your post, you did Number 2 (kinda), so... Unless you PM me with exactly what you did so I can recreate it (when I get my own Emerald ROM), I cannot help you.

I think you misunderstood me a little...
Basically, all I did was change the dimensions and the tileset was expanded even though I didn't manually expand it, so then I manually put it back to the original size and things started glitching up from there.

I don't know what happened, but I'm no longer experiencing any problems (and successfully completed Route 2), though this might happen again as I map more. But I'm making constant backups now, so I can see exactly what I did.
