What are your gaming goals for 2026?

Mine is the same as it was last year, and the year before that … to finish games that I buy.

I always start games then run out of steam halfway through, and by the time I go back to them I've forgotten the controls or the central storyline. This year I want to play slower, focus on a game at a time, and give it my full attention before moving onto to the next.

Cannot think of anything that necessarily counts as a "goal". Views it as more of a general direction.

  • Will try to do as many Game-Along games as reasonable. May not always work out, due to not having or not wanting to play something in the theme.
  • Beat Fire Emblem Engage on Maddening. Played it with restrictions on Hard (the middle difficulty) several times. Should feel different enough to be good. Feel confident in being able to do it (and have fun).
  • (Re)Play the old Magic the Gathering game (by Microprose). Has not played it in ages. Might try to make a manual Archipelago game out of it. Depends how easy it is to edit the save file. (Found a Reddit post that may help towards that end.) May not be particularly well-suited to that style either, so no guarantees. Will probably wait to play it first as a Game-Along game.
  • Complete all the Spotlight Challenges in the Challenges subforum. 1 of 4 already. May not necessarily do some that are less fun, though, such as a Nuzlocke. (Enjoys watching them, but not playing them. Feels too stressful.)
  • Participate in (and host, if necessary) more Archipelago games. (A multi-game randomizer, for those unaware.)

I tend to play a game then not start another for a while lol, but some game goals I would like to try:

  1. Pick up and start Paper Mario Thousand Year Door (bought the Switch version upon launch 2024 but still haven't played it yet oops)
  2. Play Fire Emblem 3 Hopes again and do Golden Wildfire and/or Scarlet Blaze Route before Fortunes Weave comes
  3. Play at least one game on my Steam backlog (leaning towards first Hades)

[PokeCommunity.com] What are your gaming goals for 2026?

Most of the time I do make goals like that for the year! They've been things like revisiting and properly finishing games I grew up playing/knowing about, cleaning up my backlog, trying an old classic I missed out on, or finally getting around to playing that one specific game I've been pushing away. It does usually help!
I guess I haven't really been thinking about one for this year, but now that it's been mentioned, I do think I have one: I just wanna play more this year.

I got super busy last year and it meant I had a lot less time to play video games, I wasn't just sitting around doing nothing and having that time to fill. A big goal of mine overall this year is to really make the most of my time, free more time up, and take the opportunities to spend it on what I enjoy doing like playing video games. It's very easy for me to go "I'm so busy all the time!" and then once I have free time I'll sit there not knowing what I want to do with it, so taking the initiative to actually pick something to play is something I wanna do a lot more.
Having a new computer helps a lot too, it's still new and exciting to me so I'm taking all the opportunities I can to spend time on it and use it, and I wanna play games I couldn't run at a comfortable framerate (or at all!) on my old one such as Borderlands 3 (which I finished sometime last week), Unbeatable, Marvel Rivals, RKGK, and I just made plans to sit down and play Baldur's Gate 3 again. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4, and the DLC for Pokemon Legends Z-A are also all games I really wanna be able to play this year, I've been wanting to play them ever since they came out.

One specific thing I have in mind atm is to beat Frozen Outskirts in Dark Souls 2 for the first time. It's still the only thing in that game and one of the very few things in Souls games that I haven't beaten yet, so I figured on my latest playthrough that it'd be nice to maybe try to beat it for once.

Should also try to finish my 3rd Dragon Age The Veilguard playthrough this year. Started that months ago and have stalled on it for months lol but I'd like to get back to that at some point

I'm in this weird position where I don't want to get a Switch 2 (because my old one still runs fine) while my country seems to be very keen on forgoing all the Switch 1 versions of the dual release games and stores (even online ones) mostly stock up on the Switch 2 versions. As such I came to the conclusion that I'm probably going to take a break from anything Nintendo related. Instead I'll focus more on Indie games (PC and Switch 1 if available).
