...Now feels like just a little a little bit of light. What I'm talking about is the move animations. Especially things like Solar Beam and Hyperbeam. I mean, in the days of RBY, they literally felt like an armegedddon, but now...it's just kinda "Meh, whatever." Has anyone else Noticed this?

(Sorry if there's already a thread on this, I didn't see anything like this)

What, you mean how the whole screen went black/negative? Yeah, that was pretty BA, i'll agree. I think that now there are so many moves some of the animations can't help but be a little generic.

Certain animations like water gun, though, are more satisfying. It used to be like three pitiful little drops, remember?

Yeah... Lance's Aerodactyl's Aeroblast scared me a little. And my God, the sound behind it was like the freakin' Death Star!

Sadly, the only awesome satisfying move animation in the 4th gen is Explosion.

I'm considering Haxxing a smeargle so I can see what Judgement/Aeroblast/Psycho Boost looks like in DPPt.

A lot of it is probably due to better technology. I mean a lot of stuff before was just the screen flashing or moving back and forth.

The 3rd gen Hyper beam was just awesome. Now it just looks like, WTF. ;)

To be honest, I prefer the 4th gen Hyper Beam. In RSEFRLG, it looked like.. umm..

an army of white dots being blasted at high speed towards your opponent?

I like the way the screen shook after a move hit on R/B/Y an G/S/C. It really gave you an idea that the move was hitting home. Now the Pokémon just flickers a little, and you're like, wtf, my Dragonite is a hologram? dnw. D:

I loved Hyper Beam in the Gen 1 games. That was the best, imho.

Those are the moves that scare the mess out of you when you're a kid, I swear. But they felt like an Armageddon back then because Pokemon was still fresh and hip. I can't believe I'm using those words to describe it, but it's true. And there weren't a lot of superpowerfulawesome moves back then, and Hyper Beam was thought to be the best, so of course it looked awesome. We have so many moves and abilities that Hyper Beam really isn't up to snuff anymore.

    No comment on the others.

They flashed way back then too, see.

Hyper Beam no longer halfs the opponent's Defence in its damage calculation too, meaning it is effectively twice as weak as before.

I remember the move Thunder in R/B/Y, that move was EPIC. Slow motion and everything 8D
    I love that move.
Fire Blast looks awesome to this day, still.

I kind of wish that Super effective moves turned the screen black, I forgot how awesome that looked.
P.S. Why did they all look so creepy in the old games. I will have nightmares from that executor....

And remember how they changed the physical/special barrier in generation IV? That made a huge difference sine Hyper Beam was stuck on a lot of physical sweepers back then. (Gyarados, I'm looking at you.) There's nothing "hyper" about Hyper Beam anymore. :/

Amen! Fire Blast, Thunder, and Blizzard: they'll look good no matter what game it is.

I agree completely. Giga Impact is exactly the same as Hyper Beam was back then, except that barely any Pokemon learn in by level up.

Also, I liked T-Wave's animation in R/S/E/FR/LG. Now it's a... yellow circle with small sparks?

Ah nothing really gives you the same feeling like seeing the screen get all distorted when a wild Drowzee used confusion, or seeing everything get inverted when Morty's Haunter used shadow ball, or just seeing everything flash with a hyper beam. I think the reason why none of the 4th gen attacks feel as epic as 1st and 2nd gen ones is because they didn't do as much stuff with the battle scene like they did with the old ones.

The first three generation's animations were great. Thunder in generation III was so intense, it actually caused some early versions of Ruby and Sapphire version to lock up, and the sound effects were the most favorable in my opinion. Generation II's Conversion looked funky, and the Hyperbeam was the bomb. Heck, even Leer looked like it could kill.

Looked like it could kill? In GenII Leer was two mother @#$#@% hyper beams being shot out of Cyndaquil's eyes.

And who said Solar Beam doesn't look awesome? It's a giant yellow beam falling from the sky landing right on you and making a massive explosion that doesn't fit onto the screen.

Oh yea, I forgot how awesome Leer looked in Gen 2 - That wasn't just a leer, that was a friggen' laser! And I have to agree, Hyperbeam had, like, "epic" written all over it in Gen 1 - I hate the way it looks in Gen 3, and I can't remember what it looks like in Gen 4.

Solarbeam looked awesome up until HeartGold/SoulSilver. Might have changed the sprite earlier, but whatever. Anyway, it USED to look like an actual beam. Now it's just a flash of light. How does SolarBEAM turn into a flash of sunlight? It doesn't make me feel epic when I use it anymore.
