What is with this hatred towards Roxanne?

    While many Pokemon characters are hated for stupid reasons, namely May, the most ridiculous things I have seen said about any character have all been said about Roxanne. The most ridiculous thing being that she is some evil warlock that is corrupting children to do her bidding.

    While I do not like her myself, I do not get why such ridiculous things would be said about her. She hardly did anything in the series at all. I have no idea how anyone could hate her so much with what little she did. Does anyone have any idea what this is all about?

    Naminé generally dislike the Pokemon Anime itself, so she doesn't know how Roxanne is portraited in the anime. Personally, she suspects that it is the anime that may portrait Roxanne as a dislikable gym leader~ The game and the manga seem to portrait Roxanne just fine in Naminé's opinion, so it's most likely the anime.

    As for May, it is mostly due to the replacement issue for Misty. There are too many Misty fans who are simply upset that she is replaced, just like how people despised Tracey as he replaced Brock as a part of Team Twerp~
     
    I've actually never heard anything against Roxanne, but I have a hunch it has something to do with the fact that she's a Nosepass trainer. A lot of people seem to think that Nosepass is lame, and since that's her primary Pokemon, I'm guessing they'll think she's a lame trainer as well.

    Just a theory, though. I really have no idea how they could hate her. She really didn't seem to have that bad of an anime appearance, I think, and her game appearance wasn't too bad either. Anyone know about her Special appearance?
     
    As a matter of fact, I've heard that there is a scan that makes her look evil. I have not seen it myself, and it seems that the scan request topic is pretty much dead.
     
    I've never heard anything like that before. Well I know that people will draw stuff or doing anything else about her. But in my eyes there is nothing wrong with her. She is so easy to beat in Pokemon R/S/E versions.

    You're talking about the anime series right? In that case I'm going to move this to Pokemon TV Shows and Movies where it fits better. ^^;

    I never heard of anybody hating a gym leader much less Roxanne. I mean I never even thought much of her besides being the first gym leader Ash fought. I don't even know if she ahs a fanclub. How can she be hated if she only appears in two episodes.

    I like to see that scan.
     
    I never heard that. Anyway, here is wikipedia's take on the Special version.

    In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Roxanne is both the Rustboro City Gym Leader and an instructor at the Rustboro Trainer School. She has appeared in "VS. Nosepass" Parts 1 & 2 (Ch.190 & Ch.191), "VS. Shrifty" (Ch.222) and "VS. Kyogre & Groudon X" (Ch.248), normally as either appearing as the Gym Leader of Rustboro (where she supplements the traditional head-to-head challenge with written tests), or fighting against Team Magma and Team Aqua with the other Gym Leaders from around Hoenn.

    Although I did think she did side with Magma when the teams forced the Gym Leaders to choose sides and her being a Rock type Leader, chose the earthly Magma. So it might be that tidbit where this person made her assessment. Beyond that, Roxanne is a bland character. Interesting concept with her schoolteaching but bland nonetheless.

    Dunno, but it seems pretty stupid childish to me to think that people think she brainwashes childern and all. I never had really thought about her, and the people who think that stuff about her have to much time on there hands
     
    Yeah, and after asking around a bit more, I've come across the theory that she created Nosepass from Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda series after the events of Wind Waker. No one even came up with the explanation as to how she would have removed the Master Sword, which evil ones cannot touch. It's ridiculous.

    I'd agree on the may/misty issue, but not on the fact that Roxanne is badly portraited on the anime.. she's a cute person and I can't seem to understand why anyone would dislike her..
