To start off, I just wanna say I feel this thread shouldn't be merged with the fitness thread, as I'll try to clearly focus of people BMI.

For bruhs who don't know what BMI is, BMI (stands for Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. To find your BMI, go on https://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyweightcalculator.aspx If you're under 18 like me, choose the child section.

Now my BMI came out as healthy which I'm clearly happy about. It said my BMI is in the 51st perceptile. One more thing, I know this is a wonderful community, but just in case, please don't judge any bruh. Weight balance is a serious issue with some bruhs.

EDIT: The percentile is different between adult and child, so please mention what option you chose :)

The BMI is actually highly problematic though just so anyone new to it is unaware of this fact.

It doesn't calculate muscle vs fat vs organs vs waterweight.

If you want a better judge of the health of your body you'd need more expensive methods of measuring your fat content. Mine is about a 17-19 (Not too great I know.) while my BMI is 21.4

    0th Percentile
    Underweight

    oh dear god

I know that my body is <3% fat. So yeah.

42nd percentile or 23.2. Now give me all your lunch money you scrawny fucking nerds.

    Mine's 20.2. I noticed you don't get a percentile for age if you're 18+ and I feel like that's age discrimination okay?

If I were 17 years old I'd be at the 39th percentile (that's the oldest it'll tell me that information for), so I'm probably a little further under that for the age I am?

Pfft. I already know I'm underweight tyvm, but I actually work out/eat more/etc now, so I expect some results.
Also, let's not forget how fucking unreliable BMI is. :)

To be fair, BMI is a fairly decent system to measure your sort of build. It's probably more effective in conjunction with knowing what your body fat percentage is though, because someone with much less muscle than normal may have an unhealthy amount of fat but a healthy BMI reading, and someone who is shredded might have a BMI of 27 but might be very healthy indeed! If you're of an average sort of fitness, it's a pretty good gauge to have.

As an ectomorph, it's kinda natural for me to have less body fat (which I'm working on), but the BMI can't really take that into consideration since it's a statistics-based system, therefore I'm classified as an unhealthily thin person, which is far from the truth. I'm not the skeleton people make me out to be when they find out how much I weight, haha. They mainly assume that because those numbers aren't considered a normal weight statistics-wise, but people tend to forget that what's not enough for someone who's differently-built might be just the right amount for someone like myself. It's all about proportions, at least 95% of the time.

In your case I'm sure that's totally fine. There's obviously exceptions to the system and that's why it would be much more effective as a system if you could fit body fat mass into the equation somehow. And even then, it's not quite perfect as vital organs etc can vary in mass as well!

Hence why biologists don't consider it a very reliable system. It's 50/50.

It says that I'm 22.6, which is just right to the center of the green zone. For a good portion of my childhood, I was considered underweight, so it's good to be in the green zone. I know it's not very accurate, but I'm about average, so it's something to go off of, but definitely not live by.

I got 17.8 which is considered "underweight".

Regardless of any accuracy issues here or what I get using any other system I don't really care. I am extremely skinny but I'm a healthy person so who cares?
