I am getting a new computer this year, a laptop, but I don't know what to get. I have only had two computers in the past: A Compaq for 7 years and a Dell for a year and a half (freaking got attacked by viruses).

I only use my computer for internet and school stuff, not gaming. Do you think I should stick with a computer that uses Windows or switch over to one that uses Mac?

    Compag and Dell suck, imo.

One thing you could do if you get a Crapintosh is put a Linux OS on it. My mum has that as her computer and only uses it for eBay pretty much.

Linux would be a good option in your case. It doesn't run as many games as Windows but is quite useful.

If you still want games you might wanna try and run a Windows OS dual with Linux.

Go with Windows, it'll save you a hassle from some things on the internet. I dont know what computer type to recommend but go with one that has good speed and lots of space for your junk. I have a microtech, it's okay.

I just got me an HP dv4000 around 10 days ago. I like HPs really well and we've had 3 and all worked well and never had anything wrong with it.

Me I would get an HP laptop (if you got the money go with the dv4000, the second best HP laptop out there, or the dv1000 the third best HP laptop. You can always go to www.hp.com and see what laptops they got) and go with Windows. I've never had Linux or anything, and I've always liked Windows so me I would go with Windows.

Yeah. My brother gave me a HP Handheld from 10 years back and it still works! It's a HP 320LX Palmtop PC.

Anyways, I wouldn't suggest running Windows as an OS. Trust me, if you want to get things done it'd be quicker to go with different one.

Really my computer teacher told me her HP computer broke like after a year....but those who have had an HP and a Dell which has worked better for you?
My dad had some Dells a few years back, they wasn't all that good (he got like 7, it was for the business and he sold all of them since they just didn't do much).

HPs don't break within a year, this desktop is over 3 years old, one of my dad's laptops is over 3 years. Both are HPs and both haven't had anything wrong with them. My Aunt has an HP for 2 years and never had anything wrong with it, my cousin and his kids (he's in his 30s) has always had HPs and they lasted and nothing came up, and another cousin of mine had his HP for a year or two and it's still going.

Sure the HP will break if you drop it, but that happens with any computer/laptop you get. I would look into both the Dell and HPs before getting one, since getting a laptop isn't some small thing. Also you might want to check out the thread below, since DT asked about the same question as you.

Heed his words. They are very wise.

Wait? Game Hacking Tools don't work on Mac? *changes mind* I am definetly getting a PC then. Now to question which one. Now with all the posts I am definetly leaning towards HP, but now is really a question of price. How affordable are HPs? I am looking for a laptop that is $1200 or less....

I used to have an HP computer, sucked.

    My personal sound-cardless desktop is actually an HP to and works well >.>; But it's only a 2000 -.-;

Right now I'm running Gateway and having some problems. Can't really suggest it =/

    It's called Sony :P

Well I think I have found the one I wanted...it is an HP...

HP Special Edition L2000 Notebook Computer
    AMD Turion 64 Moble Technology
    512MB Memory
    60GB Hard Drive
    DVD-Rom/CDRW combo drive
Windows XP with Service Pack 2
    14" WXGA Widescreen Display
    Wireless 54g 802.11g integrated
    $699.99 after rebates...

    Sound like a good choice?

I prefer a gig of RAM as standard...but...it's personal taste.

    Looks nice =D

    Extras that I'd want:
    -DVD Burner
    -80 GB HD
    -15" Screen
    -Bluetooth in addition to WiFi

I saw that laptop at the store when I got mine.
To me it looked good, it was just the RAM was too low (I also like at least 1 gig) and I wanted at least 100 gig hard drive, and most of all I wanted a 15.4 inch screen XD.

It sounds like a good computer for the price.

My computer's much worse than that. Quit rubbing my nose in it. :p

    It does sound good ^^;

If you don't need any processor/RAM intensive programs, it'd probably be worth it.

I changed my mind XD I found a better one for me :P
