What was the first aspect of Pokémon you got into?

I originally got into Pokemon through the anime (Indigo League) in ~2011. I fell off the anime around 2018 /19 since I thought it was too formulaic, but I've been marathoning through the series over the past few months which has really revived my interest.

Ironically i think it was the cards that got me into it and someone at an old elementary school i used to attend brought them to show to his friends

Before I got into the video games proper, I started my journey towards tossing my cash towards the card game. Years later, I have an entire bookcase full of binders to show for it.

Sure, those binders aren't solely filled with Pkmn TCG. But that's still thousands if not straight up over ten thousand cards.

Mostly the toys, I think. That and the general hype.

These days I pretty much only buy the games, but I'm still super happy to get Pokémon toys or find them at thrift shops.

The Pokemon anime was my introduction to the franchise. I recall first watching the Advanced Battle series and became instantly addicted. I was in kindergarten at the time, so I was quite young!

Started by watching the anime. Enjoyed it (although I also enjoyed things like Power Rangers back then so guess the bar wasn't high). Thought it was a very cool and unique concept.

The anime ran out of episodes and started looping. Heard there were Pokémon video games so I decided to play them while the anime channel took its time to bring new episodes.

Had a blast with the games. Tried to continue watching the anime series after that but I was just disliking it more and more as time went by. Figured the anime had one job (to lure people into the games) and it had already been accomplished, so having the games, and way better animes to watch as well, I abandoned the TV series for good.

Same! The anime was so important to kickstarting my obsession with the series, though for me it was the late 1990s. I also fell off of it for a while and would love to marathon it sometime if I had the energy. Too much anime to watch lol.

Saw a couple episodes of the Indigo League as a kid, but that was about it. For some reason the visual style of anime rubbed me the wrong way as a kid. In high school in the early 2010's I ended up watching Yamimash's Let's Play of Snakewood by Cutlerine and a few other fan games. Got the Gen 3 games on emulator, then I decided I liked it enough to buy a 3DS just for Alpha Sapphire.

The games. I saw them advertised in my brother's issues of Nintendo Power. They looked interesting, so when they released my brother and I decided to give them a shot. And the rest, they say, is history.

If it wasn't for the games, I wouldn't have endured the sheer torture that is the Pokemon anime as long as I did. And if I was exposed to the anime first, chances are it would have turned me off from the games, but things happened the other way around, for better or for worse.

I'm still mostly a Pokemon games person, but even with that, I'm only really in it for the trainer waifus, lol The franchise has taken a nosedive recently and the likes of Leaf, Serena, and Lass/Lady NPCs are my only attachment nowadays.

Seeing Pokémon battles in the very first episode of the anime got me hooked, and it eventually led me into getting Pokémon Blue.
The concept of types and type match-ups really clicked with my 8-year-old brain, and I still play the games to this day.
It is actually through Pokémon Blue that my general love of gaming emerged from.
The anime, however, I dropped out of as it gradually got phased out of cable TV where I grew up.

i got in to PMD games 1st no surprise haha i try main games like Red + Crystal tho i like dungeon crawlers better

Also i try see the anime 1 time tho i only did 1st few episodes 'till i stopped.

The games. My brother introduced me to the games (specifically Pokémon Diamond) and I was hooked. I found out about the anime and the TCG afterwards- I dabbled in both but couldn't really get into either, even as a kid.

This might be a surprising one, but the thing that actually got me hooked into Pokemon was something called "pokemon tretta arcade"! It used to stay in a big mall that was near my place, unfortunately after months of not going there, It was gone. I still saved some of the chips by the way (a bit dusty too LOL)! I hope that arcade machine could be still played around somewhere.
