What's your favourite Nintendo handheld?

My favorite is definitely the Nintendo 3DS. The fairly compact size and weight is great, as it can fit into your pocket easily. The stereoscopic, no-glasses 3D feature is probably one of the coolest things that I've ever seen on a handheld, and an amazing breakthrough in handheld gaming, and gaming in general. The game selection is great.

I'm biased because it's the only one I own, but it's also the 3DS for me. It's peak console design! Feels nice to hold, the screen(s) are a good size, it has a PEN (instant approval, I'm a simple artist) and it looks sick. And I love how 'quirky' it is, there's background music at every screen, and it makes little beeps and boops for every button you click. Pleases my brain lol.
Game-wise, it has access to all previous Nintendo consoles' library with emulators (official or otherwise), so you can play most anything Nintendo released from 1983 to 2021. That's almost 40 years of games, all in one place. And that's without counting a few extras (like ps1 emulation).
Man, I wish they didn't ditch it for the Switch...

Tldr: I also love the 3DS.

In terms of the console itself, the Gameboy Advance SP. Liked the lighter weight and small size. Felt fine without the touch screens of later handhelds. Holds a rechargeable battery and well-lit screen, unlike the handhelds before it (without extra accessories). Always preferred handhelds you could close (to protect the screen) too.

100% agree, I really like the Switch, but the UI often feels closer to a McDonald's ordering machine then a Nintendo product lol.

as much as I love my switch & switch lite, and also loved my childhood GBC, GBA, SP and DS Lite. When I think about it, I also have to say 3DS.

I still have all the consoles in question mentioned above, but the 3DS is the one I can always go back and endlessly replay. (I can replay the others, just in smaller capacities).
I've even had several moments on my switch where I get that feeling of "I'd rather be playing my 3DS". I felt like the 3DS was just a casualty to time, the new consoles was out and it kind of naturally faded away after a while...but it was still so fun to play, and honestly still better in some aspects than it's replacement.

If I imagine a time in the future when the switch is also a dated console, I'm sure I will revisit my 3DS a lot more (heck with the drifting sticks and such, I don't think my switch(s) will last as long as the 3DS will, they're younger and already have more issues). My "New 3DS XL" still works great. Funny because it wasn't a childhood console for me so defo not a nostalgic pick, but it's my favourite Nintendo handheld I think!

The GBA for me. Even though mine was just a hand-me-down I still played it to death growing up. I'd love it if I was smart enough to modify one to have a backlight like the SPs, which were cool too, but I liked the GBA design more.

Hard to tell. I guess DS for me though. I am mostly undecided between that and GBA sp. I didn't live the gba era at all, because i started with DS. My old DS still works well and it amazes me. It's very resistent and i think the touch screen was a nice added feature. However, in terms of games and overall style, the gba sp seems to be more interesting to me.
