Which region has the least variety of Pokemon

Regrettably, Sinnoh, at least in DP - i'm not even going to talk about how there are only two Fire-types in the game, and they didn't even have all the new evolutions that were present until the post-game. Good thing Platinum fixed that.

Some of the Pokemon choices in Sinnoh are questionable, but you actually had a pretty sizable roster of diverse Pokemon to choose from outside that.

Johto you're seeing the same variations of the Pokemon that you've been encountering since the beginning, and you have to look around for the good gen 2 Pokemon.

^ Well that is true, Johto does have a lot of basic stuff early on like Pidgey, Geodude, Rattata and other stuff you already saw in Kanto at the beginning, and some of the awesome Johto Pokémon don't even come until very late (like Swinub in HGSS) or Kanto (most of the Dark-types). Although it was cool that Headbutt in HGSS granted you access to a lot of different Pokémon at earlier points, like Heracross.

I totally agree. A good chunk of the new Pokemon in DP are either continuations of previous evolution lines or legendaries.

I was so pissed when I found out that Houndour was only obtainable in Kanto! lol

Mmm, Johto and Unova back at Pokemon Black and White had underwhelming diversity of pokemon, I think. Well, Unova managed to fix that by introducing more pokemon for their region at least, but yeah, Johto probably could of done a better job with that. Like, not really a wide selection of fire pokemon were in Johto, save Cyndaquil, Vulpix, and Growlithe.. which maybe there could of been a Magby or Magmar somewhere that was more easy to find and catch?

Sinnoh has little amount of Fire-types, Hoenn region is lacking of Ice-types and both Kanto and Johto are pretty lacking with Pokémon, the latter one has to rely heavily on Kanto's Pokémon .

I'm with Unapologetic. Pretty much almost every region before Unova had something lacking in terms of Pokemon - Sinnoh with its lack of Fire-types, Hoenn with the lack of Ice and Ghost-types (maybe also count Fairy as of OR/AS) and Johto having too much Kanto Pokemon.

At least B2/W2 Unova and Kalos proved Game Freak learned from this, with both having a huge variety in their Dexes.

I''m with most of the people said, Sinnoh it has very less Fire types whereas there are plenty(more than plenty) Of water type here.Hoenn region is lacking of Ice and Normal types.Kalos is heavily lacking of Ice types that's made me feel that every region has its own lacking of Pokemon of certain types....

For me, I'm a big lover of Fire types. I try to always have a Fire Pokemon if I can, and if I can't have a Fire Pokemon, I have to at least have a party member with Flamethrower or another Fire move. So DP Sinnoh was really disappointing for me with it's lack of Fire types, but not only that, that generation introduced so many new evolutions, but most of them weren't accessible til post game. Really sucks because that's what I wanted to use the most out of anything really, but at least it was fixed in Platinum.

Gotta disagree with people about Hoenn. I have replayed them countless times and idk, I always tend to find things that are fun to use, heck, even if I've already used them before. idk maybe it's just me, haha. I can understand if someone is a big Ice type fan and was disappointed in the lack of Ice Pokemon, though. I get that. I'm sure some people would ignore my plea for Fire types in Sinnoh, so different strokes types for different folks, I suppose. :)

Johto isn't lacking in types, but in a similar vein to Sinnoh having a ton of new Pokemon that weren't accessible, Johto had the same issue. You couldn't get some Johto favorites like Larvitar, Houndour, and Misdreavus until you had access to Kanto. Larvitar, for example, you couldn't even get until the final area of the game. That's so late that it's almost pointless to add it to the team then. So yeah, while Johto had plenty of Pokemon for the most part, I just wish there were more of the Pokemon introduced that generation actually in Johto. I'm sure the reason was because since you do go to Kanto, having some stuff not available in Johto made it fun because there was still more to discover, but idk, I would have preferred to get a lot of these Pokemon earlier than Kanto, especially with how lackluster Kanto is in GCS especially.

I really felt like Dex diversity didn't get really good til BW2 though. There are so many Pokemon to choose from there and they only increased it from there which makes replayability great for those games as well as XY.

I would say Kalos given that it only introduced 70 Pokemon, but I felt like many of them were rather unique from one another. I feel like Sinnoh didn't really equally distribute typings or species. We got a great number of Pokemon, but a lot of them consisted of newer evolutions from lines of previous generations and a handful of legendaries.

I'd have to agree on Sinnoh; the range of Pokémon we had access to encountering, at least during the beginning, wasn't that wide. Second would likely have to be Johto, as stated by others.

I also wasn't too bothered by XY not having many new Pokémon, even if there are mostly old ones I like being able to use different teams and have so many different possibilities. Not to mention it's a thing that they'll soon have so many Pokémon and won't be able to add too many every region.
