Can't you just play to have fun anymore? Do you honestly have to be better than everyone else in Pokemon to feel you have accomplished in life or something? I mean, it is just a video game. Or have people began to lose touch with reality?

Yeah. It's just a game. It's not like you have to win and be good. It's just to have fun and play well.

people play competitive for many reasons. You learn about yourself through competition. And personally I love the thrill of playing against good opponents and improving my gameplay and myself. Kinda sad others dont see it that way

the only time I play competitivley is when I battle DBsummit [aka]my older brother the reason for that is he's never been beaten

well it depends how you define competitively. what do you mean by competitively?

i battle because i want to battle. i try to win because i put effort in making my teams and i want to know that the effort is worth it.

*shrugs* Some people like to spend a lot of time building teams and focusing on winning, others like to just put together some good Pokémon with nice movesets, and some like to just finish the story in the game, then barely touch it again. It all depends on what your preference is; there's not much point in questioning another person's opinion.

I suppose I like to put together teams and battle because I'm a very mathematical, yet creative person, and Pokémon allows a release of both of those sides of me.

Well, you shouldn't be mad when you lose. That's being a bad sport, and the only times you should play competitively, is when like someone is undefeated, or they've beaten you so many times, and many other reasons.

Since this thread is more for general discussion than battle requests, it should be moved.

Lol, those are terrible reasons. You don't need a reason to battle competitively. In fact, everyone who has spent time raising a team of should battle just to see how well they can do.

Competitive battles are fun, and they are probably the most fun things to do in a Pokemon game. You aren't just battling a dumb CPU opponent who keeps using Earthquake on your Staraptor. You're battling a real live human being who can think just like you. You can play mind games, trying to predict what your opponent will do next. You can plan out strategies and see those strategies come to life against a real person.

If you win, you can be proud knowing that your hard work in raising your Pokemon paid off. If you lose, you can learn about what weak spots your team has and how to fix those spots so that you'll be better prepared next time.

Either way, battling against others is fun, challenging, and lets you learn things about you and your Pokemon that you can't learn anywhere else in the game.

I enjoy competition. It doesn't consume my life, and I'm very much still living in reality, it's just fun. I take pleasure in victory, I guess, and this is a good way. Besides, my friend Josh is just a little bit better than me at almost every video game ever made, and Pokemon is one of my only repeated victories on him. I don't intend to lose that anytime soon.

Or, maybe people play competitively because it is fun

No wai!, I would never have thought of that! /sarcasm

its what you do when you've been playing since pokemon red/blue..

as all the games are basically the same.. competetively gives a new dimension to the game

lol, this post is full of truth and win.

In fact, I find playing people who are "non-competitive" to be boring, since their Pokemon aren't up to their full potential.

    to be honest..

i found the story of diamond and pearl really really rubbish..

the wifi is one of the only reasons i got the game.. and the new cool pokemon

Very nice thred, I must say. It actually has a meaning besides 'dood wher can I find a everstone' or something strange like that.

Anyway, I still haven't beaten the elite four on D/P. I'm very happy with where I, am, though I can't speak for anyone else here.

heh, i usually clear the game in 2 days then arse about with legendaries.. im training an online team before that though :O

I play for fun, and i make some RPG chars from my game 'heroes' X3'
I like to look at my natures etc. but i never change them, unless it is a Feebas.. The only thing change at my Pokemons is the moves, unless that means breeding.. I try with a Rock Slide Torchic, but really don't like it >_>;; *Swift back to my old Blaziken*

I used to play for fun, but I'm going to play a bit more competitively with Pearl. That is, once I get my wifi adapter to play online which is hopefully very soon :P

Healthy competition helps people to improve, but too much of it isn't all that good either as it can bring out the worst in people.

In my opinion, competitive battling itself is just one aspect of the game that is fun. There are so many things that I find great about the game. Building greats teams and testing how well they work against other teams, looking at all that you have in front of you and then asking how can you better yourself and further expand your knowledge of the game.

I know as of recently, I'm constantly at the battle tower (diamond) seeing how far I can get with my teams and its actually quite amazing to see how well they do.
