4th Gen Wierd guy in victory road

I've been trying to get through victory road for the last week or so now, but there is a strange guy preventing me from progressing any further than the league exit (the far exit, not the one with the Poke Center and the waterfall)

The guy says the following;
"Let me size you up..."
"You're going to become even tougher."
"You'll meet many, many Pokemon."
"That's what you should be thinking."
"Eventually the world will grow bigger to you!"

My team is all on level 56 - though I'm thinking of seeing if there is any difference if I train them to 60 or 65...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

that isnt the right way u go, that place is unlocked l8r in the game...
in fact if u look at ur map u can c the path that is on the right side of victory road, which is where it leads

But the question is. Why is that guy blocking your path? I've never come across anything like that. Did you beat the Elite Four yet?

no he obviously didnt.

that route that is blocked leads to route 224, which holds little purpose really, only one big rock, that enables you to get shaymin when + event.

you are near the exit though, the exit is just north from where you are now, try rock climbing and going north over the bridge, you should see another door nearby, thats the correct exit
