WiFi help

Hi, I just set up my Nintend Wi-Fi USB Connector, than I turned on my DS and started up my Pokemon Diamond, than I clicked on WFC Settings to test the connection. Once the test was complete my DS said I had a good connection, but when I got into the game it wasen't working. When I went undergroung it showed no signal, and when I went into the union room no one was there. I made sure that my DS was in the same spot as it was when I tested the connection, so I don't know what could be wrong. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

Well if you go underground or in the Union room, that's for local wifi like with another DS and person next to you... To test out the wifi that you just got, go into the GTS in Jubilife or get someone's friend code here to battle/trade/chat.
